Thanks for your reply. Earlier 6.0s like the LQ4 and LQ9 didn't have VVT, but later engines L96 and LY6 do have it. As far as I can tell, those are the only engines that will swap in easily.

I finally got this done a couple weeks ago. Thanks to everyone here for your input, especially Swathdiver. Your assessment was spot on. This was plug and play with the tune, runs great on regular gas. I think we're going to go back into the tune a little, we just used the stock L96 parameters. Gas mileage is down about 2 MPG, but O2 sensor and fuel trim data look perfect on my Snap on scan tool. I'm thinking that the premium fuel L94 with more aggressive timing may just be a bit more efficient. Anyway, I'm very pleased with the results and the increased bottom end torque is noticeable.

so rare someone follows up a thread above how it turned out. much appreciated.

I was going to ask why not go with a iron 5.3 for cost savings and fuel mileage? just curious

the 6.0 you went with, was that rectangle port heads like the 6.2? or Cathedral.

did you find out what the noise in the 6.2.was?

World's best way to turn a 1/2T full size SUV into a better hauler. It'll run on regular and crank out 360 hp. If it's the later e85 compatible motor, you get 322 hp the BCM will detect for you. Like the link says add a cam and expect another 100 hp.

Buy a 10-14 Escalade Platinum or Premium 2WD with a blown-up motor and factory equipped dual exhaust, drop in a tuned L96 set to run on race (e85), regular for towing or premium and you've got the world's best budget Luxe hauler.

Bolts right up, same manifolds, same heads, same intake, same flex plate, smaller injectors and 80 pounds added to the front end for the iron block. Tune it and go.

Use the Hummer motor mounts (25847739) while the engine is out and consider a billet torque converter with the improved Sonnax parts.
sorry to bring up a old post i'm curranty in the same position. Anyone know any good tuner to help me out ?

The L96 is a beast when it comes to reliability, especially for a daily driver like your Denali. You’re right — you’ll lose a little horsepower on paper, but you’ll gain a ton of durability. Biggest thing will be getting a proper tune to deal with the different compression and no VVT if your L96 doesn't have it. I actually spotted a l96 engine for sale near me recently, and they’re pretty reasonably priced too compared to rebuilding an L94.

If you had a few L96 ready to pop into a 07-14 Denali for sale with a blown motor you could make a nice profit flipping them.

An 07/08 Denali running on reg gas with an e85 motor is a huge plus. A 10-14 Denali with no AFM, running on regular fuel and the longevity of the L96 pretty much makes for the perfect luxury tow vehicle.

That was a good read. It's actually a very good upgrade to the 6.2, with reliable horsepower gains and durability easily attainable.

My side project for the past couple months is doing the exact same thing, except I bored it to a 6.2. It will be getting a set of L94 heads and an OEM L92 camshaft, retaining the VVT. LOL, don't have the vehicle for it yet. This summer I'll be shopping for a clean 2010 to 2014 Sierra pickup with a blown motor..... I'll make this into my toy hauler.

Don’t buy em, build em mindset. Addressing the shortcomings of the L92, L9H & L94, correcting them and building those weaknesses out makes for a decade of happy cruising.

Don’t forget to collect your 2019+ 10SP 10L80 trans to get your MPG up and RPM down.
