The flatbed Ford is new since the last time I was there. A bunch of family and friends have seen it though.

No pics of the Burb today, but....
Absolutely stunning sunrise over the Grand Canyon at Mather Point...
Pictures, naturally, don't do justice to what the eye beholds, but this is the best we could do.
Fueled up in Williams, AZ where we are staying, drove up to Grand Canyon NP, drove all around the south rim of the Canyon, stopping at every view point, then drove back to the same Loves truck stop to refuel. 190 miles total, about 120 of that was the trip from Williams to the NP so that means we drove about 70 miles at the canyon today. Averaged 18 MPG which is pretty good I think.
Day 4 of our trip is in the bag, tomorrow Monument Valley and Horseshoe Bend for sunset.

Aww man. Close to my mums home in Prescott. Brothers went to school at NAU. Driven all over that area. The GC is magical.

Some of the best sunsets that I've ever seen are in that area.
Having seen multiple photos of the Grand canyon before actually seeing it in person myself, I totally agree that photos don't even come close to what the eye beholds.

If you look really close you can spot the Burb in Monument Valley... lol
Here is a couple zoomed in...
I drove far enough into the scenic loop to get these pics and decided that it was smarter to pay a tour guide than to tear up my own truck so I turned around and went back and got to ride a cat eye 2500HD with open seating in place of the bed and took the extended tour into the back country where you have to be escorted by a Navajo tour guide. An absolutely breathtaking, jaw dropping, experience. I highly recommend it to anyone that has never been. You don't get a true understanding of the shear size until you see it up close and personal.
No shots of the Burb at Horseshoe bend because you have to park and walk about 15 mins to get there and unfortunately the weather was overcast and cloudy so no sunset pics, but here is Horseshoe bend as we saw it today...
If you look really close at the bottom and a little left of center where the water meets the rock at the inside of the Horseshoe you can see a boat and there were people camping out down there. The boat was probably 15-20 foot I am guessing. Again this just kind of puts things into perspective for size. It is massive.
Day 5 in the bag. Staying in Page, AZ tonight and heading to Cedar City, UT tomorrow. Hopefully get that Fa Ra Ra Ra Ra Ra-ra-ra-ra dinner tomorrow night at the Hong Kong Buffet, assuming they are open.
As an aside note, I didn't expect to be totally alone at any of these locations, even though it is the off season, but I have been absolutely shocked at the amount of Asians and Indians that have been at all of the locations we have been to thus far. I can only assume that this must be a big vacation time for them to come over here, either that or we are being invaded... lol

Moab was a tiny town the first time that I visited it. The second time, it was much larger, as it gained popularity with outdoor and off-roading folks. I'll be very interested in what you see there these days.
BTW, Moab is where I started my rafting and camping trip down the Colorado River, and we ended the trip down the river at Lake Powell. We also flew back to Moab (part of the rafting/camping trip charter) in 6 seater Cessnas, starting by taking off over a multi-thousand foot high cliff and then retracing the trip along the Colorado River and the Badlands. This charter does EVERYTHING for you, including meals and hikes to incredible sites along the way. All you bring is clothes, hat, sunscreen, and booze. For anyone who loves camping and rafting, letting someone else do ALL the work, this is truly a lifetime bucket list experience.

Tomorrow we drive across the Rockies over to Boulder, CO. Will be staying in Boulder for 5 nights. Going to branch out from there to WY. (DevilsTower), SD. (Mt. Rushmore), Rocky Mountain NP, Pikes Peak, Garden of the Gods.
Think about visiting Crazy Horse Memorial -- they have a new crane up there and the work they're doing on that mountain carving is amazing!

Amazing country!
You're probably going in the opposite direction now, but Mesa Verde National Park is about 100 miles from Canyonlands National Park. It has amazing cliff dwellings of the Pueblo Indians built into the face of cliffs about 1000 years ago.

Yes Mesa Verde amazing but too far south closer to 4 corners.
Black Hills great driving. Mt. Rushmore and did see Crazy Hourse from afar as do not have time.
Anything Wyoming. Such a cool collaboration of spots posted about your own itinerary and travels.
Thx for sharing and the pics are unreal scenery and clarity.

Left Moab and traversed I-70 across the "Ike" (Eisenhower/Johnson tunnel) and safely into Boulder, Colorado.
There were chain/traction control laws in effect all morning but we managed to come through just after they were lifted it seems so we didn't even have to use the snow socks I purchased, Thank God, I have slung tire chains on my semi in the past and don't miss it at all. At least socks are light if we did need them.
No pics from today as it was just a travel day. But we arrived safely, praise the Lord.
Day 9 in the bag.
Tomorrow Devils tower, WY. and Mt. Rushmore, SD.

Made it safely back to Boulder after a 21 hr day. Left at 2am mountain time and just got back to our room a few minutes ago.

Last time I was at Devils Tower was in about ‘96, driving my old ‘82 Celica and the temperature was -20°F that evening.
I woulda passed out driving over that bridge. I can't do them. LOL
