and now I cannot find a way to protect my gas tank from... well you know.. the elements … anybody know of any locking gas caps that will work with these "cap-less" systems? Any help will be greatly appreciated..

You will probably have to go aftermarket with a locking gas cover like a bully or something to that effect
2nd option have a locksmith install a cabinet type lock on the cover or diy.

when they steal gas around here they just poke a hole in the plastic tank from underneath they have made it very difficult to siphon anything from the filler tube, they prefer to hit the uhaul trucks though because those are super easy to siphon

I have been thinking of a move to Texas for about a year now. Need to find a self storage facility to work at.

Didn't know that stealing Gas was still a thing... I thought it was like doing Crack.. sort of Passe'. Here on Long Island Pills and shooting H is all the rage.

These caps will keep contaminants out of the cap-less fuel system, if you are concerned. I have one and so does a relative of mine with a 2018 Silverado.

I saw before that they do actually make a locking cap for the cap-less fuel system. I've used locking caps before and they can be a pain but generally aren't all that bad. More or less they would be a "red flag" to show you that your fuel system has been tampered with, rather than a secure lock out against mischievous behaviors.
