Is it possible?

I blew up the transfer case on my 2001 Suburban 2500 the other day and well, money is tight.

Is it possible to rebuild the NV246 Autotrac with 32 spline input shaft with some parts out of an NV246 Autotrac with 27 spline input shaft from my old 2001 Tahoe. Or am I better off with a rebuild kit.

I can't answer your direct question, but you might watch for 2500 part outs on FB Marketplace, Craigslist, OfferUp, etc. I don't know about your area, but they are pretty common around me. And you should be able to use the transfer case from any 2500 or 1500HD (Sierra or Silverado, plus Suburban or Yukon XL). I do not know enough to suggest any other sources. Do be careful about year matches,

Ok now here's another question. I have a 2001 2500hd CCSB I'm considering parting out. How much work is it to swap the heavy duty axles and differentials, transfer case etc. Doable but I suspect I'd likely need new driveshafts.

I have located one for $200, came from a 2000 2500 non HD

So I'd be looking in this area for the holes due to pump rub? He has two, one with 130k and one with 190k.

If they are both 246s you can just swap the front input shafts from your 32 spline to your 27 and be good. I had to do this on a 241 which had a 27 and i needed a 32 for my manual transmission swap. Tear down is pretty easy on these units, just put everything back together, and might as well upgrade the pump with a new pump plate, or just the washer to prevent future pin holes.

Make sure you look it over carefully, and search for pump rub on YouTube. Make sure you get one without holes, and preferably one rebuild already.
Looks like pump rub is what killed my transfer case. Previous owner did a poor job at repairing it.

Did the chain exit the case? You can buy a replacement rear half case and they arent expensive. Pump Plate that prevents the case rub is around $20 or so. Seal, bearing, clutch (If you have auto 4wd) and chain kits arent too expensive. Rebuilding the NP246(E) is stupid easy. Tons of youtube step by step videos. Only "special" tool you need is a set of internal/external snapring pliers with a long reach. Thats it.
If the front case is good, Id just rebuild it as long as you dont have any major hard parts damaged. If you do then id just buy a core to rebuild myself. Thats what I had to do with my wife's Tahoe when her chain played peek-a-boo and blew out of the case.
