Hi All,

I just purchased an invisacord for my ****** radar detector. I have a 08 Yukon Denali. The instructions don't cover the Denali. The closest reference is the 2003+ Silverado SS with compass and auto dim mirror. For that installation the yellow pin goes to the middle yellow wire, left column and the black pin goes to the top black wire on the right column. Can anyone confirm if this is also the case for a 2008 Denali?:

For those who are interested I just installed the invisicord and it works great! The wire procedures match the 08 Escalade which is listed on the invisicord web site.

Well worth the 15 bucks!

Sorry to have not chimed in in time to help, but I took my truck to my local mechanic, and he identified (with an electrical tester) which slots in the mirror's harness were hot, ground, etc. This took all of the guess work out of it. So, for anyone else looking to add the InvisiCord (which I also recommend!), it's easy to determine which slots you should be plugging into, even if the directions don't specifically explain it.

$15 may not be bad but I could make this from a phone line and $2.00 in hardware from lowes... infact, I think I will :) photos coming by Tuesday...

Step 1: Cut phone cable to about 10" - this way if you mess up you still have some leeway

Step 2: Take off about 1 inch of the black rubber over the wires, but be careful not to cut the inside wires.

Step 3: The outside 2 wires don't matter, so you can go ahead and cut those off.

Step 4: Strip the middle 2 wires.

Step 5: Get a "9 or 15 position male crimp d-sub connector" at Radioshack. It comes in a little plastic baggie or a little plastic and cardboard container (really all you need are the pins) and it's in the drawers where the fuses are. You NEED the crimp kind or else you will have to solder.
http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2103805

Step 6: If you are planning on shrink tubing, put the shrink tube over each of the small wires before you crimp on the plugs.

Step 7: Crimp one connector on each of the middle 2 wires. Heat the shrink tube to make a clean and covered connection.

Step 8: Take the harness out of the back of your rearview mirror. For reference, I refer to the bottom as the half that has the pink wire next to the green with black stripe wires in the middle two slots.

Step 9: Put one pin for the ground in the top left corner black wire(Looking at where the wires go in the plug), the other pin to the lower pink wire(switched) to the left of the green with black stripe wire.

Step 10: Plug in your radar. If it doesn't turn on, switch the pins. If you accidentally touch 2 wires and short it out, it's the compass fuse under the hood.

If you don't understand, pm me

Hopefully that picture clears it up. The top left black one, the pink one on the bottom row (4th over)

I bought an invisicord and never used it... I ended up radioshacking it up and made them for next to nothing. It was nice.

IMO the fuel used to go to radioshack and the time and effort expended to make all of the connections and the guess work put forth for the hook up totally exceed the $17.00 you would spend on the invisicord and the 2 minutes it takes to connect it... JMO.

I had two radars to put in a tahoe and yukon, I had one invisicord. And there was no guess work, I knew how to make it

+1, but that also is JMO. I did still have to get out my meter to find the correct connections. The instructions did not cover my '09 LTZ. Ground was correct, but not switched power.

im usually for that, but it was fun to learn something at the same time save money (radioshack - 2 miles away, motorcycle 40 mpg, premium gas 3.00 = $.30) AND i get it NOW! :hands: PLUS i know how to do it so i can sell it to friends for cheaper than invisicord, and i can do whatever length i want. Time to build, maybe 5 minutes at most, hardest part getting it plugged in.

ME
Gas/Time = .50
Phone cord = free
Connectors = 2.00 (pack of 10)
Total = $2.50

Supplies left over = do same for another car OR sell for $10 to a friend
Total 1 = $2.50 for two cars
Total 2 = $7.50 in my pocket

You
out $20

I just like to see the entrepreneurial side of things, not that it would lead to anything with this, but just fun. Like i said on some things i agree Time and travel are better saved for an easy click of the button, but this time was a learning experience. :party33:

Worked for an 09 denali, 08 yukon, and 07 tahoe... I have 3 years covered there. What did you have to use for switched?

OK instead of starting a new thread on this, since we are on radar detector topic, ill just ask here.

Ive got the passport 8500 and about a year ago (having had it about 2 years at that time) the laser would send false signals, so i stashed the detector until i made my invisicord just the other day. I have the laser turned off, but now the Ka is sending false signals! anyone else with this problem or know of a way to fix it. i know ****** will do a "fix" for $60, and ive tried the q-tip thing and nothing. I just took it apart again today and did the q-tip with rubbing alcohol to see if that works, but any other suggestions would be great. i really dont feel like spending another $500 for one if i can get this one fixed.

Instead of $500, spend $400 and get a V1 ;)

4 years driving, 4 years speeding ticket free (M3, Dodge Ram, Chevy Tahoe, now a Denali)
