Has anyone removed the VHT spray on tint for tails and headlights? Or maybe ideas how to lighten? I bought some LED tails that are sprayed and they're a little too dark for my liking. They look awesome on the truck but during the day you can barely see any lights, defeats the beauty of the piece. Will wetsanding lighten them?

Long as you don't leave it on there. I tinted some taillights on my motorcycle and they were a little to dark. That's what I used.

Thank you

Did a google search to see that Acetone and break cleaner were other options

is it the one that Blackout had? Id take them off your hand so you dont have to go thought all that trouble. Acetone is powerful stuff, careful with it

I use Acetone in a spray bottle just soak the tail light completely then wipe it down
and to avoid the plastic streaking I follow up with a wax and tar remover which helps take away any remaining acetone

I've learned multiple times that there is no making the spray tint lighter you just need to start over and get the hang of it

I wouldn't suggest VHT though I hate that stuff

I use Rustoleum Lens Tint and it comes out really glossy and its really easy to apply with great results!

here is how mine turned out

never been pulled over for them
they look blacked out but if the sun hits them or in the right light you can still see the reflector and everything underneath the Lens Tint

Thanks for the response. I actually have been using the Rustoleum, just sprayed too heavy, can barley see the lights. They're too sexy to cover up that much

Holy crap, that's really dark man. Wet Sand it and re-clear-coat. Might look like doodie though. Lol. Go on CraigsList, guy son there will re-do it for you for like $30 and they do nice work too to be honest.

Sure thing. I will snap a few at dusk so you can actually see them. Plan to remove the VHT tonight

Id wet sand them with 1000 grit then start over by having a body shop do em, unless you know how to paint.. IMO

I know how to paint, just one coat too many.

I had the same problem, and tried every type of solvent known to man, even aircraft stipper. I ended up having to sand the hell out of the tailight to get it back to red and its still sort of dull. I do have a set of tailights I'll sell you if your interested. Factory tail lights.
