I have decided to get a new set of tires and rims for my 96 Burban. and i've been told that i need to lift it 4" to be able to fit the tires i want. but im not going to lift it that high. i'm looking for more like 2" and maybe 3" AT MOST. but i doubt it. and i dont want to pay for the fancy suspension lift, i waould like to know what i should use to be able to fit 285/75/16 and the rims are 16x8. and i would like to know how high i need to lift it for it to look pefect, not too high not too low. and would that size of rim and tire make them look beefy?? and square?? if not please let me know what size will.
thakn in advance.

those tires will fit now. Worst case you can crank the torsion bars up 1-1.5" and you'll be ok.

OR

A 2-3" body lift

i was thinking. i might change the size for a better more beasty look. what about 285/70/17 with a 17x9 rim?? would that fit with a 2" body lift??

the wheel diameter isn't too important, the back spacing will be as well as the diameter of the tire. The less bac spacing will make the wheels stick out more. Your stock wheels I believe are 16x7 with 5" back spacing, or at least very close to that. The more the wheels stick out the more rubbing issues you will have.

the only difference between those two setups is that the 17x9 is 1" wider...the tires are the same either way you look at it...Honestly I had an OBS (1998 Z) and fit 36x11's on stock rims with a torsion crank...You can clear the tires you are talking about as long as you crank a little...you could easier crank your stock bars 1-2" and clear those tires man.

if you just want the clearance not to crank you could do a 3" bodylift
