Greeting from the Mid West, Belleville IL. I am the new owner of a 99 2 door Tahoe project.
The Tahoe is the basic work truck trim. No power accessories. No carpet. Bad engine, bad AC, bad front seats, no console. Good body, very little rust. Good glass. Good tires. No transmission issues that I can tell. No suspension issues that I can tell.
My plan:
- Replace the engine with a 5.7 from a 94 Chevy Van. It's available, has only 120K highway miles, and is owned by a little old lady from Missouri...really
- Upgrade the front seats to 2002 or newer Tahoe or Silverado seats.
- Add power side towing mirrors.
- Upgrade the interior trim panel.
- Upgrade the audio system.
- Maybe add a full time rear camera since the barn doors don't let you see much in the rear view mirror.
The Tahoe will be used as a daily driver and to occasionally pull a utility trailer and a small boat.
I really will appreciate any and all advice and recommendations and I'm looking forward to contributing to the forum.
