GMT900 SUV Converting Oil & Trans Cooler Lines to 6AN & 8AN Braided SS w/ AN Fittings

My vehicle is a 2013 Cadillac Escalade ESV AWD. That being said I believe this process and part list should apply to all GMT900 SUV’s looking to make this conversion. I'm creating this post because I searched high and low on the forum for a parts list of the lines and fittings needed to get this done and came up empty handed. I figured I’d make this post for any other GMT900 SUV owners looking to make this conversion and upgrade the factory engine oil and transmission oil cooler lines.

The engine oil cooler lines on my '13 Escalade ESV started to fail and leak right at the connection points, then they started to leak bad enough to begin to leave a puddle in my driveway and in my parking spot at work from remote starting the vehicle and sitting still idling.

It is well known that the factory oil cooler lines are junk and even when new or shortly after new replacement OEM lines are installed it seems the connections start to seep within 6-8 months. I did not want to replace the factory engine oil cooler lines with OEM lines/parts, and instead wanted to upgrade and convert them all to stainless steel braided lines and AN fittings.

I also took this time to upgrade the factory transmission cooler. From some rough measurements with a measuring tape I estimate that the factory transmission cooler is about 10- ½” W x 5- ½” H.

This picture is a bit deceiving with the OEM trans cooler and measuring tape cause I'm in front of the grill.

Based on my measurements I was coming up with a MAX vertical height of 8.125” from the bottom of the stock transmission cooler mounting location to the bottom of where the hood latch is located.

I worked with my mechanic to develop a parts list and here is what we used:

TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER LINE PARTS:
EVIL ENERGY 6AN 20 FT Nylon Braided Line Kit:

ICT Billet Transmission 6l80e Oil Cooler Line Plate Adapter:

Extra EVIL ENERGY 6AN Hose Clamps:

I went with a Setrab Transmission cooler
Setrab Series 9 Proline 50-920-7612 Tansmission Cooler:

The Setrab Transmission cooler I chose required (2) of these adapters:

I purchased a Setrab Series 9 Cooler Mounting Bracket Kit:

(2) EVIL ENERGY 6AN Low Profile 90's (These were needed where the outlet is on the transmission there's not a lot of room around there as the front drive shaft

ENGINE OIL COOLER LINE PARTS:
EVIL ENERGY 8AN 10 FT Nylon Braided Line Kit:

Extra EVIL ENERGY 8AN Hose Clamps:

(2) ICT Billet Quick-Disconnect Adapter Fittings F08AN0C50001

Improved Racing Low Profile LS Engine Oil Cooler Adapter:

(2) EVIL ENERGY 8AN Flare to 8AN ORB Adapter Fittings:
(Because the IMproved Racing LS Engine Oil Cooler Adapter doesn't come with fittings)

We ran the 6AN transmission cooler lines and 8AN Oil Cooler lines parallel. Utilized the 6AN and 8AN Hose Clamps to keep all the lines tight and parallel.

The Setrab transmission cooler ports are on top, which is different from stock. My mechanic recommended this in case those connections started to seep or leak later on being on top would prevent the transmission fluid from just pouring out. Also, the transmission cooler lines are routed directly from the transmission to the cooler and back.

Really happy with how everything turned out and should be pretty close to a "one and done" as far as having to ever replace transmission cooler or engine oil cooler lines.

I somehow missed this when you first posted and after much "paralysis by analysis" came up with the same transmission cooler.

I don't have an oil cooler, but would like to know what fittings you used to adapt your new oil lines to the radiator. I've gone through your post a few times and seem to be missing that.

My 07 Denali has the smallish factory KNP trans cooler and NO oil cooler.

I may add a oil cooler and a larger trans cooler. I'll study your post.

That would be because I don't have my transmission oil cooler connected to my radiator. In my setup the transmission oil cooler is run straight to and from the transmission only, and does it not connect to the radiator. This is ideal and prevents engine operating temps from affecting transmission operating temps.

My Denali sees duty in 100+ degree temps (Texas) and -20 degree CO mtns, so it will be plumbed thru the radiator.

Did something similar 2 years ago on my Hummer H2, using the same oil cooler line block on the oil pan. (They are
marketed under a couple brand names) Instead of using the nylon braided hose, the stainless steel braided hose is the way to go. If that nylon rubs anything, it immediately starts to fray and unravel. Also the heat under the exhaust manifold will be pushing the nylon braided hose to its limit, if not more.

At the radiator end of the oil cooler line, I see you use the compression fitting and retained a short piece of the original pipe, keeping the original connection through an o-ring. You can simplify it and eliminate the o-ring connection with a fitting and screws directly in the radiator, and has the appropriate male AN fitting. (They're also available for the transmission cooler side of the radiator)

I ended up adding a mishimoto oil thermostat to the system.... I was cooling the oil too much and getting condensation building up in the bottom of the oil pan. (The OEM oil cooler line block that attaches to the oil pan has a thermostat built in. Below is a photo of it)

Good catch as I did not include that on my list, but did purchase and need them.

I got (2) of these fittings to convert from the factory quick-connect to 8AN threaded fittings.

I edited my original post to add these to the list under Engine Oil Cooler line parts.

I did something similar on the silverado and initially used a ICT billet quick connect to 6an and the thing leaked/seeped 24/7, just not to spec I guess?
I ended up removing the factory connector and used a factory thread to 6an fitting and she's not ever going to leak
nobody makes a short enough one so I had to visually search for the shortest and then trimmed it down to fit properly, then used a 6an 90 and stainless wrapped 6an lines
the yukon has all 6an adapters also but is lot easier job
