have a 2007 cadillac escalade with the 6l80. I bought a 2011 chevy tahoe 6l80 both transmissions are 4x4 tail housing. What im wanting to do is put the 2011 transmission into my 2007. I have read its the same transmission, and I should just have to put the tcm and valve body out of the 2007 into the 2011? Or can I just put the 2011 transmission into my 2007 with no parts swap and just bring it to my tuner and have him flash the tcm?

Please Let me know

This escalade has been swapped with a Corvette LS3 on stage 3 came and ton of engine work and we roasted the 2007 transmission being awd. Now we are doing new trans and gonna do a 4x4 transfer case to get 2wd and only 4x4 when we want it

Can somebody tag @NickTransmissions for some reason it wont let me

You can do either / or but I’d do neither. I’d rebuild / convert your original unit using a Circle D Level 2 or 3 kit along with other prudent upgrades (billet 1234 piston, six pinion 6L90 front planet, fully reconned/upgraded pump, weld reinforced 35R drum, etc) plus all new OEM electrical/electronic components. If that is what you’re planning on doing, good deal. If not, that is the route I’d go.

I appreciate you responding fast man! Haha well that will be in the future right now trying to get her up and moving to see some kinks and what needs worked out then onto a better transmission. So ideally id be ok to put the 07 tcm and valvebody into the 2011 one and wouldnt have to change any sensors or anything prior to imstall? Hypothetically speaking, I wouldnt just be able to put the 2011 transmission into the 2007 escalade without changing anything though right?

I mean ideally if I can just put the 2011 in and change nothing and just have to get the tcm flashed thats way easier until I buy my built transmission for it.

You can install the 2011 replacement and have that TEHCM programmed to your vehicle, assuming there's no problems w/the replacement's TEHCM, IMS, valve body and/or speed sensor harness assembly. Keep your other unit close by in the event you have to swap in your other TEHCM/VB/IMS/Harness assy if you find out the replacement unit's counterpart components are bad...

You can’t put a 2011 transmission into a 2007. The valve body and TEHCM are different. You will have to swap those but keep the speed sensor on the top of the valve body from the 07.

May I ask why you are choosing the 4x4 instead of beefing up the AWD? Also, are you going to beef up the 4x4 transfer case?

I don't know if you really need to beef up a NP261HD. They are good for 1K HP stock.
A NP263XHD has a 1.750 chain whereas the NP261HD 1.50 chain. I do believe you can put a 1.75 chain and gears in the NP261HD.
