Okay, since it's halfway between "audio & electronics" and "Exterior" I figured I'd post this in here.

I want to do an all time fog mod, but I don't have the necessary schematics to figure out the best way to do it. There are so many relayed and shared circuits in this thing, I can't quite see it in my head. Not to mention the momentary fog light switch, which is clearly relayed and multiple circuit dependant as well.

Does anyone know of a way to (simply) use the resources our trucks already have, to do a mod in which the fog/parking light combo will come on automatically, with both the drls, the headlights, and the highbeams?

Thanks,
chip

I def. want this mod, if i could find the wiring schematics i would take a shot at it. Simple way would probably be running the power wire from the fogs to the headlights where they supply power wit the low beams on. But again that would be the simple way which would in turn have you using the low beam relay.....i know somebody would really want this just like us.....

Well, there are a couple problems with doing it that way. One is that the fogs are on a 15 amp circuit, and the headlights are on a 10 amp circuit. 2, is that there are quite a few shared circuits in these vehicles, so you would have to worry about back feed. You could use diodes, but I'm not sure about which circuits are shared. That's why I was hoping we had an electrical engineer on here that could chime in., or at least a tech who has experience with this.

I have it on mine, I just ran 99 cent diodes from the low beam relay to the relays belonging to the lights I want on with my lows(fog and DRL) It's all in the box under the hood on the left side. I can get pics if you need them

Yes, please! I was hoping there would be a way to do it at the relays. I just didn't know which posts on the relays to use. Thanks!

If im understanding right, you just want the 6 hi mod. Where the fogs, highs, lows can all come on at once, I have it done like stated above, w/ the diodes, but i have to push the fog light button to get them on, but once they are one, i can do highs, and lows and fogs stay on. So im not sure if this is what your asking. I think you want them all on automatically, like when your lights turn on at nite/dusk??

Yeah, see I already have the 4-Hi mod. I'm trying to make the fog lights (which include the parking lights) come on automatically, with the DRLs, and with the low beams. That way, when I start the truck in the daytime, the fogs kick on with them. Then, when the sun goes down and the low beams kick on, the fogs will simply stay on with them.

Basically, I want the fog lights on all the time, without having to push the button.

You should just simply rewire the fogs then with a relay triggered by the ignition. That way, anytime the truck is running, the fogs will be on. Is that what you pretty much want?

I thought about that too, but the problem there, is that I also want to be able to turn them off when I kill the power to the lights. You know, if I'm pulled up somewhere and I want to kill the lights, I want to be able to just turn the knob and kill power to all the lights at once.

Can you see how tricky this (should be simple) task has become?

Or you can wire them up like I did mine. My truck didn't come with fogs, I added them, so I had to do all the wiring. I wired them to a relay which is triggered by a rocker switch. The rocker switch is fed off of the ignition switch. So if I just leave the switch on all the time, the fogs are on anytime the truck is running. Or I can choose to turn the switch off and shut off the fogs anytime I want. I mounted the rocker switch where the factory foglight switch normally is.

Also, another benefit of having them wired like mine, is I can have just the fogs on with every other light off if I want to. I can even have all the parking lights off and just the fogs on if I want.

that's simple.

use a diode from the DRL relay
and a diode from the low beam relay

just like you did on your HI-6

drls will then trigger the fog relay
and so wil low beams
and so will highs

but turning off the lights & drls from the switch will turn them off.

I would suggest running the 3 diodes into a single wire of course.
When I did my hi8 I did them using 20 ga wire on both sides of the diode(s), and tinned the ends of the wires 'flat' so they would tuck nicely.

Thanks Guys! This ^^ is exactly the information I was looking for! Do you know which posts to jump? When I did my 4-hi, I hard wired it, so I don't know which posts are which. Should I just jump 30 to 30, or what? Thanks in advance Eagle!

I am looking to do this exact mod (2001 Yukon), can you give me some more details as far as relay locations, etc. Did you go from the drl and low beam relay (with diodes) to the wire inside behind the fog lamp switch (which is used to do the fog -parking light mod), or is the fog lamp relay under the hood, so I don't need to fish wires through the firewall. Chip, how did you do yours? Which posts on the relays did you use. Thanks!!
