Fuel Tank Removal/Replacement

Been trying to figure out a gas smell coming from my '97 Yukon 2dr. Happened all the sudden, noticed my last fill up when parked in my garage. Strong smell. Some have suggested warn seals on top or even a rust thru problem.

I dropped this tank a few years ago for a new pump. Tank looked ok as I remember and this truck is garaged 90% of the time. But I felt the old pump, which was replaced by a garage a couple years earlier, was used and attached to a old tank that was not mine! If I drop it and see it needs a new tank, do any of you have experience with the $100 replacements I see on the web? Last thing I need is to install another problem.

Any recommendations?

I can't find anything over $140 on the net. Average price is about $115, and a low of $85. Not looking to save in trade of safety. But if they are about the same, be good to know?

Wish the vendors showed the gauge of the steel for each tank. Or better yet, someone that has seen these aftermarket tanks first hand.

could be your fuel tank pressure sensor, that sits on top of the tank. When I first took my tank down on my yukon, that sensor was just sitting on top of the tank, and the whole bottom part of the sensor was snapped off and inside my tank... If that's not it, you might have leakage through your filler tubes or fuel lines. It could even be your poppet injectors leaking gas into your intake, which is common, and this would produce the gas smell you talk of.

rather you find one from a dealer or a good used undamaged one at a wrecking yard.
