The long body is finally getting BBP tuned!!

The data logs have been sent and I am just waiting for the tune files to come back this week after the holiday weekend.

This will be the best mod you do on that burb! Even to this day this mod is at the top of my list of things I've done to mine in the 8 1/2 years I've owned it. Makes such a huge difference in how it drives.

Yessir. Agreed with the above.

Excited to see how the truck responds and if my wife even notices. Lol

You'll know she noticed when it comes back like @swathdiver and @Galante with mpg in single digits.

Yeah the stop-and-go in the urban flat jungle does not help the MPGs one bit.

Just got an updated tune over the weekend and installed it but haven't wrung it out yet, tonight maybe. Too hot and too much traffic.

Great!! Should be good. I got up before 0600 to make my data log last week, so that I didn't get stuck in traffic, didn't get in trouble being gone in the wife's DD.... and to also make part of that run out on I-95 before it got choked up.

Where we run errands is like Oakland Park Blvd between I-95 and US1 and US1 between Oakland and Commercial. If you get up to speed you have to slow for lights and traffic. Seems like there's barely a 1/4 mile between lights and stop signs. I started out this morning with the DIC on 18.1 MPG and finished my errands, including lunch with my wife, at 13.2 MPG.

I do my full power runs for the datalogs on the I-95 ramps up here.

Sound exactly what I am talking about. I ran Oakland to I95 to Commercial to US1 to Oakland. Could barely get the WOT and beyond and then worry about the po-po when hitting it's stride or a red light or driveway lurker ready to pop out without looking.

Suburban MPG is pitiful in FLL.

I do my WOT on the ramps, get off at the next exit and right back onto the ramp and so on until 3 or 4 are done. You could do go WOT at Oakland and at Commercial and McNab (long run there) and turn around at Atlantic and go WOT there and on McNab again then head for the barn. The stop and go to and from are helpful for tuning too.

My grandparents lived on 19th Ave behind the Mai-Kai and of course that's where I grew up (one of the places), born in Hollywood.

You might consider putting the Suburban on E85. My mileage average difference between Gas and E85 is about 2.8 mpg and $.02 a mile less expensive to drive compared with 93. Our worst mileage on E85 was still equal to a decent tank on 93 price wise.

As long as the vehicle is flex fuel capable you can run E85 with our tunes. There is not a separate tune for E85 (There is a separate set of tables that will take effect on that fuel).

If you go with the AutoCal we can provide 89/87 and 91+ octane tunes (depending on engine size), E85 can be used on either engine tune file, but will probably perform slightly better on the 91+ octane tune.

Installed this today.

Airaid 851-135 Premium Dry Air Filter.

The blue one that was in there is an AC Delco and it looked pretty good.

The MAF was clean.

Mine is supposed to arrive tomorrow. Can't wait. Planned on keeping the suburban stock. Now I'm at tint, exhaust, lift, tune, about add drop in and intake tube. Some sweet burbs rolling around!

You’ll love the Airaid filter I run the same with the MIT

Same here. Works great. They sell a special cleaner for it. It's diethylene glycol monobutyl ether. I showed the SDS to the chemist at work and he said any ether would probably do the same thing, but since I'm not 100% on the synthetic media in the filter, I ordered the bottle from airaid. Will report.

The Black Bear Tune has been flashed.

Many thanks to Justin @BlackBearPerf for setting up the tune and working with me to get the AutoCal and tune file in sync. Thanks to Jarrad for answering my emails as well.

I went for a drive tonight and made a few WOT runs to see how the tune performed. Wow! What a difference in the way the truck runs now.

She sounds good and of course knowing she is tuned kept a smile on my face.

I will be interested to see what/when/if my wife notices any changes in the way the Suburban drives.

The shift points are smooth and tight.

There isn’t that drop/lag from dead stop when hammering it out of the hole (I would never abuse the wife’s DD).

The AFM is deleted.

The tachometer ran hard to 5500 RPM and kept propelling that long body as much as I could give her on the city streets.

I somehow managed to chirp the tires at one point making a turn and giving the accelerator a bit of a punch. Ssssh don’t tell my wife.

Excitement yes!!

Here are the tune parameters.

89-87OctECm
Engine computer tune designed for optimal use with 89 or in some cases 87 octane as well.

ModTCM
Transmission computer tune designed for all around shift patterns and response improvement.

I topped up the tank with 89 and reset the MPG to see what the next tank numbers are. See how much the wife is hot rodding. Lol

Can’t say enough about the Black Bear tune. Now having 2 GMs tuned, it is one of the best mods you can do for your truck IMHO.
