Coincidentally, a coworker and I were discussing Brasso a few days ago. He was a radioman in the Navy and they banned them from using it to clean the ships, particularly the doors. It was wearing down the seals little by little, eventually making them leak.

Related story: When my ex-wife's aunt passed, the family was going through her belongings to disperse them among themselves and hauling the rest out to the trash pile. In a load to the trash pile, I ran across an old and rusty but unused can of Brasso and snatched it up. The family, that already thought I was a bit "out there", turned their noses up at me (they were jealous haters for many other reasons) as I contently carted my prize to my truck. The "newer" version is still good for polishing scratches out of acrylic and plastic.

That's why I started using Brasso, on my buckles to pass inspection! But the best stuff aboard ship was not Brasso, it was the bug juice, the powder for the red drink mix, that stuff cleaned everything!

Surely is a good find, it lasts forever. I feel bad for these folks who fall for those expiration labels that EVERYTHING has on it these days. Next thing you know, they'll put them on our cars and the poor millenials will go broke buying new cars before theirs expires.

All this talk of polishing and cleaning and waxing and stuff not being made the way it used to be reminded me of something.

My dad used to mix Tide soap powder with mineral spirits and use that concoction to restore old dull faded paint back in the day... of course that was back in the old days of lacquer paint.

I have no idea how it would do on the modern urethane paints but it worked great on the old school stuff.

Sorry to thread jack... just had to share a memory.

Yup.

They did something similar with Diazinon in 2004. It too is a shadow of its former self and pretty much useless now.

Gave the truck a wash early this morning after the recent storms.

Then pulled the random orbital out to give the Suburban a run over with Meguiar’s Ultimate Polish and finished off with a generous coat of Collinte’s 845 Insulator Wax.

All the chrome, including the wheels got polished out wth Flitz.

Any of you dads out there see this same effect from your wife and kids?

Grrrr... the interior will have to wait for another day. Drives me crazy!!

Added another project along with the Suburban this weekend. Found this lacrosse rebounder on Craigslist on Saturday for a steal at $30. One of the welds was rusted out, the powder coat was fade and there was some bubbly rust on the ground support legs. The net however has plenty of bounce left in it though.

I pulled it apart and gave it a fresh coat of orange rattle can paint and ground out some of the rust spots with the grinder to slow up the corrosion.

I put it back together today so that my daughter could keep working on her skills. Major win!

Yep, wife’s Odyssey is always a complete pig-stye. Hence we take my truck just about everywhere. FTS

We had 3 Odyssey’s and a CR-V before the LTZ when the kids were babies and toddlers. Holy cow did they get trashed!!

Wife managed to smash the passenger mirror twice, back up and scrape a tree and dent the front passenger door (still not sure how she did that in real time), drive through some yellow striping paint, scuff up the front spoiler pretty bad and spill everything under the sun inside.

Thankfully, they were all leased and we never paid an excessive wear/damage fee at turn in as they were in such demand with low miles.

Thus far, she rocks the land yacht with style other than keeping the interior in less than my standard.

She backs in nearly everywhere and away from everyone and has not had any incidents, other than some minor curb rash on one wheel.

That’s good. Mine can barely drive the odyssey, she had 4 door sedans before. She thinks she may want a Tahoe next, so we’ll see how that goes. Hopefully she does end up with one tho, I HATE this odyssey

This is why I stay single and have zero desire to have children of my own. I couldn’t handle the interior of my rides being treated like that. Nope they stay clean haha

YES!!!! drives me crazy and I don't get it. Why do they feel like it's acceptable to use the inside of the car the the cupholder in front of the console as a trash can?? I say something about it virtually every time we get in to go anywhere. I just have to do a George Costanza and say "Serenity now"

^^^Lol. I took matters into my own hands this morning before heading off to school and all the clutter is in the trash, in their rooms, the dishwasher, the laundry or off to be donated today. No more mess....for today. Still needs to be cleaned, but organized is a winner. Grrr....

Funny my wife couldn't find our kids rash guards from the beach for a few weeks. Well FML, it was in a Publix reusable bag buried in the rear cargo area....well duh!!!

You don't want to see the interior of mine then....it's NASTY......
I pretty much gave up and half ass clean it every now and then. I got tired of yelling about it. And keeping the kids from eating in there when we are constantly on the go is impossible.

I envy you......

Finally had a break from the rain this morning and the big girl got a much needed wash. Can’t really see how filthy the truck was, but trust me... it was.

The exterior got a solid wash, polished the chrome out (the wheels were done a short time ago, but ran out of time to do again today) threw some 303 on the plastics and wheel wells and decided to put a coat of Collinites 845 Insulator Wax all over the paint and chrome while I was at it.

The interior got vacuumed, wiped down and the mats were sprayed off.

Managed to dodge the isolated rain showers today and took my daughter to her end of year dance recital where she looked absolutely beautiful.

Quite a change from 2 weeks ago where she played a triple header lacrosse tournament in Parkland and the long body was dodging wrecks scattered all over
I-95 in the hammering rain.

And the NBS needs a wash too....
