That seems like a great mod. I would totally consider it when replacing the radiator. I wonder if the brushes could be wearing out, causing more pull and wearing out the battery faster?
you could pull the fan power connectors off and inspect, look for anything burnt or melted. they just unclip and pull out and clip right back

I did a surface inspection and they look AOK, I'll do a proper inspection tonight when I check the voltage.

If memory serves, you've got a dual battery with a big 3 and a sound system? Bigger alternator?
Wait, do you play your music to drown out the fans? :hahano:
I do have 2 batteries, but the second one is simply a backup spare, in the event that my primary battery somehow becomes discharged while I'm on the road somewhere. I have high amperage quick disconnects, and I connect them once every 3 weeks for a couple of days to ensure that the spare battery remains fully charged.

I do not have the Big 3 mod at this time, as it is not necessary for my truck. I have the stock 160 amp alternator.

My sound system draws 800 watts max, which equates to approximately 57 amps at full output, which is well within my truck's charging system capacity.

I play my music for me and not to drown out my fans, but if it accomplishes both, then all is well. :favorites37:

the k2's which started in 2014 for the pickups, mine is a 2018
the shroud is different though, not a easy swap

I believe the new shroud fits the newer rad and the newer rad fits or at least the hoses are in the same location looking at pics. I would like to find a junk yard combo to test fit. comparing ever pic I can find. I believe the radiator has the same mounts as the gmt900. if not, it's so close it should be easy to modify

after you have driven it for the day and have parked it, then check the voltage engine-off record the voltage, then check it again tomorrow again before you start it. and compare
coolant doesn't really look very low, mine will sometimes rest just below the cold line. depends on how it was last flushed.

Alright, I checked it 2 hours after parking it, it was 12.41 V. This morning before starting, 12.38 V. So that's like 75% charged. Or half dead?

That is good information! Your K2 170 alternator is a nice upgrade. Thanks for the input. Starting to think I'm OK, possibly weakening battery.

if you were going to do a oem alternator upgrade you could use a KW5 84143539 / 22949466 215/220a
that one has the new pressed diode design
Awesome, is that drop in? Meaning no computer problems?

Mine does this every now and then. They won’t stop even when the engine is not running. Probably a relay or fuse on the fritz. I have same engine in Tahoe with approx 160k miles.

These fans are very loud on high - WHEN EVEN ONLY ONE IS RUNNING!!!

When I changed my radiator, I didn't plug the driver's side in all the way. If your "fans" are loud, I would first visually check to see if they are both running. The computer must sense a fault and kick the other side into high speed. (This on a 2011 Tahoe)
