I have a 2009 Tahoe and given the age the original key fob is showing its years. I purchased replacement key fob's and tried to program but cannot get the tone while pressing lock and unlock buttons. As a check I took the old remote (which works to lock/unlock the Tahoe) and tried to program it. No tone. Car MFD displayed reprogram remote message. Old remote still works.

Moved you here from the 2000-2006 section.

I'm not aware of the specific procedure to program your FOBs, but I'll toss in a WAG. If you have any aftermarket alarm, remote starter, radio, etc., those may need to have their fuses removed. I know that aftermarket stuff like that matters when programming modules.

Is this the procedure you’re following?

Procedure #1

Vehicle must have a driver information center. Vehicles equipped with driver information center will
have button on the steering wheel with an "i" symbol .

1. Insert key into ignition and turn it to the on position. Do no start the car.

2. Press the Information button until Relearn Remote Key is displayed.

3. Press the set/reset button (will have checkmark on button) until Remote Key Learning Active is
displayed.

4. Press and hold the Lock and Unlock button until vehicle chimes twice this signals successful programming. Repeat step 4 for any additional new and existing remotes so they will all work on this vehicle.

5. Turn key to the off position which will exit programming mode.
