E85 or regular gas?

e85, 60-$80 easier on the wallet per fill up, runs better and cleans the fuel system. Running it constantly for almost 4 years now on the 6.2L in the Esky.

The truck likes it, so I like it

I prefer NOT to use Blackstone for analysis because they don't measure fuel dilution with Gas Chromatography, they "estimate" based on flash point . Gas Chromatography is much better. way to measure how much fuel is in the oil and how much fuel dilution has effected the oil viscosity (if one cares about such things).

The other cause for oil viscosity thinning is mechanical shear.

Todays top shelf oils withstand dilution and shear better, and you don't get something for nothing.

E85 is not harmful for engines engineered for it, on the contrary.

Brazil started offering E100 in the 70's (every single gas station in Brazil has E100 pumps) and for a long time there 90% of new vehicles were E100 only.

The E100 adoption dropped to some extent when the gas/E100 price ratio became less favorable and Flex-Fuel engines became predominant.

I know that Brazil makes their ethanol out of switchgrass instead of corn like ours.

I have only used 93 and e85 in my 6.2. It always ran better and smoother on e when it was stock and I’m on my first tank of e since cammed and tuned and it seems to love it. I rarely look at the price per gallon when I fill up, but I got 24ish gallons and it was $52. 93 normally cost $80-$90 for a fill up.

Makes no difference. I've used three or four different apps/websites. NH,VT don't do E85.

WTH!?! I added Windham in that app and it populated a bunch of stations last week. Now, PÖOF! They’re gone. The interwebs does say that NH & AK are the only states not to sell e85 right now. But … it does say Vermont sells it , which is not correct.

There are other reasons to run E85 that exclude the cost, like cleaning the injectors and that the motors love what is essentially cheap race gas. Mine makes about 10 horsepower more on E85 compared with 93 but also runs smoother, cooler, etc.

You ought to volunteer your engine for teardown when it finally fails,
so as to compare it against an engine that only drank gasoline til it fails.

I'd prefer to store gasoline vs 'E85' for extended periods of time,
but if you use it 2x a month, you've NOTHING to be concerned or curious about.

The only side effect of e85 is the 20-30% hit on milage. When I drove it for almost 2 years with a bad CPS and no DTC showing, the milage really çrapped out.

Had to fill it with 91 for the last month to calibrate the cats to dial in the CPS & MAF replacement. The $150 91 octane fill ups are a kick to the curb. Next week it’ll be back to $85 to run corn.

Just noticed the OnStar has lifetime MPG on the app. e85 + bad tune = 7.5 MPG.
