Not sure if this is the right forum for this, but here goes anyway!

I've got a 2005 Yukon XL 2500 with the 6.0L V8, trans. cooler, 4x4, etc.

I've not been able to find a definitive answer anywhere as to just what e-fans I need! I've got the clutch fan now. It's noisy and it's hotter than ...well, it's just freaking HOT here in Texas. My A/C doesn't really cool well sitting still unless I've got a foot on the gas pedal keeping the RPMs up. Hence the need for e-fans! I want to make sure I'm putting the right fans in...and wouldn't mind going one step better if that's possible.

Any help? :emotions122:

6.0/8.1 2500 line trucks including the Suburban's and Yukon XL's never came with electric fans factory. At least not in the NBS body style. MAYBE in the NNBS some did, but I don't think so to be honest

That being said, you will want electric fans from a 2005+ 1500 truck/suv. Along with a tune after install from blackbear performance. Should not need a larger radiator because you have the 6.0 already. A 145amp alternator is a good upgrade with E-Fans, but it's not needed for install

All of this info is 100% correct. Except the part about the alternator. If you have a 130amp or smaller, I HIGHLY advise getting at least a 145. But being that you have a 2005, its highly likely that you already have a 145amp. Most Tahoes and Burbans 04 and up came with 145amp, unless they had manual locks and windows, or no rear AC.

We are in the low 100's now. Its like a cold front lol. My a.c. is uncomfortably cold hehe.

It seems you can do the 05-06 nbs or the 07+ nnbs fans. Only difference is the newer fans have more blades.

Any recommendations?

So far, so good on the info! It's confirming what I've been researching. It's so nice to have someone agree with me. lol

That being said, anyone have a recommendation for the actual fans? I've heard good and bad things about any and all of the ones available. I was looking at the Flex-a-lite fans for the Chevy/GMC Full Size Trucks. Will those work? Are there better (and cheaper!) alternatives?

http://www.flex-a-lite.com/auto/html/chevy-full-size-truck.html

Thanks Y'all for the help!

In this case the stock Dorman fans get the job done. Check rock auto. They are about $140. A member on here had a new set for sale.

Ok, when you say "get the job done", does that translate into "This is the best fan for the job and is the only one you will need"?

I know, I know....I'm probably over thinking this....but if I'm going to get approval from the better half for the money, I've got to make absolutely sure that I'm not going to have to spend money again on the same thing. I tend to get in trouble when that happens. :)

Dorman fans are great and won't fail in a month. I bought mine from amazon for $140. Easy to install and quick to wire it up.

I don't think I have seen anyone report a failure in the stock fans.

Y'all are awesome.

One more question (and statement) The Dorman site sucks. Looks like I've got a number of supply houses here and I can get the part through a mechanic friend (discount!).....IF I CAN FIND THE RIGHT FREAKING PART NUMBER!! LOL.

If I can figure out which fans I need, get them purchased....there's an independent shop here that has a TechII. Can they enable the fans, or do I have to wait for a tune?

I dont know about TechII but EFILive can enable them. You will need to install a wire harness and either tap the A/C wire and one PCM pin (99-02) or two PCM pins (03-06) depending on the year of your ride.

OK. A mechanic friend pointed me in the direction of a shop here that does tuning. Not particularly thrilled with them, but seeing as how all I need is for them to enable the e-fans..... :hmmm2:

OK, and now back to beating what I thought was a dead horse....

The better half wants to know why the Flex-a-lite fans are so much more expensive than the Dorman....apparently more $$$ is supposed to mean a better item. :emotions122:

If that's the case, I'm supposed to get the better fans :)

And....in case nobody guessed...this is my first major mod to either one of my trucks, so.....yeah.

I can't recall if a Tech II can program E-Fans, I'll check tomorrow at work though

It's rare to see the factory E-Fans fail. I'd go that route. Why pay more for the same product?

I swear, my truck knew I was talking about it. The clutch fan is dying and my water pump has a leak in it.

So now, if I can get all the parts together before its appointment on Friday...I'm going e-fan!

Just gotta find someone to do the mod to the PCM programming now...and hope the fans come in on time....and hope that blackbear gets back to me so I can get the harness coming...and hope that nothing else breaks between now and then. :)
