do i need a programmed key to start my suburban?

i need a second key for 2010. i dont care about security systems, so do i need to buy a programmable key for it to work?

the key has to have the "+" symbol on it, to add a extra key once it has been cut, insert the original key, turn it to run, take it out, insert the fresh key within 10 seconds and also turn to run, then both keys will work, I believe you can have up to 4 keys.
you can get the blanks off of amazon/ebay pretty cheap I think about $15

Probably. Look at your existing key and see if there is a "+" with a circle around it stamped into it near the base. This means it's a transponder key.
