I got a spectre (aka sphincter) today for $107 from Pepboys. Sounds great. Power increase is barely noticable. Overall quality is ok. The filter seems kinda wonky and not very filtery. Its bo K&N but well see how it does.

So this simple mod makes a huge difference. I think it payed for it self today !!!!! So for the people who say they don't make power and don't do anything for gas miliage SHUT UP FOOLS.

I didn't think it would have such a big effect as it did. The throttle response in much better. From 50km to 80-100km the pull it has is greatly improved.

OH and the best part!! I was down to 15.2 mph in the city for the last bit. I got up to 18.2mpg !!!! Took a pic when I didn't think it was going to get any better. But it did View attachment 66865Here is what I thought was great. Then it got better.

So a few pics from the drive View attachment 66867View attachment 66866

LOL ... good enough for me! I'd been looking at that CAI for awhile ... undecided but the DIC ... yeah our 2004 Denali 6.0 absolutely refuses to move off of 15.6 average MPG!!

Good enough for me, next payday CAI here we come!

There is a thread here with dyno results on most of the popular models and they show gains of anywhere between 2-5 HP so if you think you can feel that , great! As for mpg, I doubt you are actually seeing a measurable improvement. I never trust a DIC for accurate gas mileage and I bet if you do a real fill-up to fill- up calculation you'll see you didn't gain anything unless your old air cleaner was extremely plugged up. I sure didn't gain any mpg when I installed mine, probably dropped some due to the fact it made me put my foot into it more! But it does look good.

Well there is always that but as I am want to say, I'm kinda like.:

If a CAI can budge my DIC off of 15.2 ... I'm good. :)

I`m not sure about all CAI kits but it`s important that you check the elbow coupler on the throttle body every now and then. I have a spectre and it has loosened and came off sucking unmetered air into the engine. I have found that it happens more in winter time, Probably from heat cycling. You will find out quickly that the engine does not run very well like that. I just check it whenever i open the hood.

The right foot factor made the mpg go way down this weekend lol. It does look good and does feel better. As for mpg it's still ok even doing 80mph and having some fun. Was 18 back to 15.5. But that's ok. The smiles were worth it

LOL

I was pleasantly surprised to average 17.8 mpg on a recent road trip.

But if I cared so much about fuel economy, I would not have bought a Tahoe.

LOL ... so 15.2 mpg does seem to be the thing??? I tend to have a heavy foot getting up to speed ... "apparently" getting there quickly ... comes at price?? I saw 9,8,7,6 and lifted!! ought I was thought I was going to be outta gas before I got 20 miles!!!

The good news??? If everywhere I went was downhill ... I'd get 33+mpg!

On a side note ... I'd heard these things have 98 mph speed limiter?? In as much as the tires are not rated at speeds over 100 mph, (2004 Denali), I had "assumed" that if I got close to that 98 mph, .. it would cut fuel or something??? Apparent not ...97 mph passing and no indication that it was going to stop accelerating?? A bit of a surprise there ... I was not looking at the DIC at the time.

On my 03 with 4.8, using the GPS, I hit 103. Wouldn't go any faster, guess the fuel cutoff kicked in .There's a thread on here somewhere if you're interested about top speed .

LOL well thanks for that! The tires are not rated for 100 mph ... good to know!

From what I saw, I think the Police AWD's were good for 119 and the PPS 2wd 122 mph?? I thought speed limiter "meant" it would not exceed the speed rating of the tires ... 98 mph ... apparently ... such is not the case??

Or get a tune and have that limit removed. Along with torque management etc. The factory tunes and limitations are a joke.

This thread made me take a look at speed ratings on my tires. I remembered a few years back I had some "z" rated tires which were supposedly the highest speed rating, "in excess of 149 mph". But now I see they have added another identifier to designate how much in excess. As you can see in my picture, mine are rated "305/30ZR26 109W". The 109W indicates load=109 rating or 2271 lbs and the W is the speed rating in excess of 149 mph which is actually 168 mph for these tires. It doesn't look like I'll be able to exceed that even with the limit removed from my PCM. LOL!

LOL ... I admire your "attitude" but ... "physics" are "physics" the stock tires on our Denali's (2004) are S rated all terrain tires (stock.)

Hmm, looks like GM may have fudged a bit I see a S rating as good for 112?? I would not want to press that however! If you exceed the speed rating of a tire you damage the sidewalls. Most of my cars have H rated tires, the tires are rated for the top speed the vehicle is capable of. So "H" rated tires are good for 125 mph. On my 951 (944 Turbo S) it's tire are "V" rated 156 mph, the ones I have were an odd duck ... they were rated good to 176 mph. I've only had it up to 140 ... when it ran ... another story. :)

At any rate I have "apparently" no idea what the true "Top Speed" is on this beast ...but I don't plan on finding out with S rated tire on it! Gotta watch that right pressure while passing! :)

Aww don't be like that! All it takes is $$$$ and HP! The 850 Hp Pro Charger kit and a place to run flat out are all you need.

But to be fair the PPV seem to be 2wd??? They have a higher top speed that the AWD's versions ... I say ... let it rain and the road get twisty and then see which one is faster. :)

V rated tires are actually rated for 149 mph. There is no 176 mph rating. The W rating is 168 mph, the Y rating is 186 mph. And Z only means in excess of 149. There is one other speed rating which is (Y) in parentheses which indicated in excess of 186 mph. These high ratings are for exotic sports cars on the autobahn of course, so I'm not sure why my 26" SUV tires are rated for 168 mph!

I'm afraid more power won't do it, I'll run out of gears waaaay before that.

Oh yeah ... forgot about that! More changes required! Most likely two sets of 3.08 or 2.73 gears required??? And then you'd have to have a monstrous torque curve or a "Prius" could outrun you!! Although on the 850 Pro Charger they don't give the torque spec?? I'd bet it's more that 850 however??? Sigh all it takes is cash and the real speed freaks ... don't look at this things ... kinda sad,. :(

At anyrate ... somebody needs to take one of these beast and try and trim 1500 to 2000 pounds off of them!! That ... would be awesome!!! But it won't be me. 'I'm keeping the "PIA" Auto Ride on mine even though, typically I'm a Coil Over kinda guy. :)
