CAI Cold Air Intake

I just purchased a ‘26 Yukon Denali with the 6.2. Has anyone used the cold air intake from Cold Air Inductions before? Are they any good? Undecided between the cold air intake from CAI or sticking with the K&N 50 series. Thanks in advance!

The thing to remember with true CAI, if the intake air location is still within the engine bay, it is not a true CAI setup. It is just a noise box which may allow for increased air intake (if/when the motor needs it) of hot air.

A true CAI setup will draw air form outside the engine bay, often through the front fender quarter panel. So, if you want true CAI, make sure that your purchase includes this functionality.

Don't waste your time with a cold air kit. The 21 and up SUV's draw air from in front of the radiator. Open the hood and look down, that is the air intake, it looks pretty efficient. I bought a K&N kit that replaced the intake tube from the filter to the throttle body.

I had that brand on my Camaro ZL1 and it definitely made a difference and GM in the past has used a version sold thru parts department for the C.A.I. intake.

It definitely gained power overall on the top end plus it also gained under the curve without needing a tune and it kept my air/fuel ratio in check being it was a supercharged factory tune engine with regards to not causing it be too lean which can lead to a burnt cylinder. I also gained a much better looking intake that would keep the filter isolated from the hot engine temps and the weather while having the hood raised in the event of rain. and sound was what I wanted especially compared to the stock intake.

Removing the factory pipe, between the throttle body and the air cleaner gives the truck a very nice growl. The K&N kit I have on my Suburban looks very similar to the factory pipe on my wife's 2017Camaro SS. I only have the tube not whole K&N kit. The air inlet is already cold air coming from in front of the radiator. I was thinking of finding a way to open up the front of the factory air inlet a little more.

Wasted our money on one (different brand) on our C5 vette.
My seat of the pants dyno didn't feel a change. Only change was intake noise.
I have to try to remember "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" but I seem to have a problem with that.

The factory air intake is better in almost all cases at providing cool air to the throttle body, these are a gimmick; a useful gimmick if you swap the engine into an older car without a provision for the air intake but they're the equivalent of health nuts taping magnets to their wrists if you have a factory engineered engine bay

Another problem with the cold air intakes is that they don't have the resonator box that reduces the noise from the engine compartment. So it may sound louder but it didn't perform any better on my car. And fortunately I found a stock type air intake with the resonator to replace the original intake that was leaking air.

I switched from K&N oiled filter cold air intake to the Volant dry filter one on my Vortec 5.7 L31. I was concerned about the oil working its way into the engine over time. Of course, this is a personal preference. I don't have reams of data to prove it.

The oil can over time collect on the MAF.

In my great old ’88 GMC, I did a lot of interstate driving…. I made a stainless steel / 4” tube that ran to an inlet at the grill opening… Kind of like a cold air intake / ram air. Behind the grill was a 4” x 12” ‘scoop’….. I don’t know if it made a difference, but it was fun to make.
