I was lead to believe the LT4 hot cam operating RPM would be too high for a huge heavy truck ...

The Hot cam was meant for a ~10.5:1 compression aluminum headed engine with a better induction system than what you are working with. So unless you plan on upgrading the intake and bumping up the compression then it and others with similar specs would be too much IMO.

Go with the ZZ4, Lunati 60120, or maybe the Crane 104227 since they are back up and running again. Beehive springs and the right retainers should let you run any of those but clearances will have to be checked. In person tune would be a good idea, mail order is only good for bolt ons from my experiences.

Summit discount code for 15% off on orders $150 or more is XS1215 but not sure how long it's good for.

I think that you hit the nail on the head. The LT4 hot cam at:
.495 INTAKE LIFT / [email protected] .218 DEGREES
.502 EXHAUST LIFT / DUR. @.050 .224 DEGREES
combined with a new set of beehive springs is a fantastic set up in the vortec motor. The springs safely allow the additional lift without any additional headwork as long as your not building a high rev motor. A good tuner, preferably local can bring it a together and she will flat *** sing. Check out the vid in my sig and judge for yourself.

from what i have gathered zz4 is playing it safe and it has to be tuned down to almost 600 at idle to make it cut up. ive been researching alot and it seems like heavy or not....most say they see the most gains out of an lt4 hot cam. i know 787 retainers and beehive springs... 1.6 rr some do and some dont. and i prefer not to do any headwork....just going to buy the intake spacer to tide me over until i can afford a marine or ramjet. thanks for all the feedback guys. zz4 seems to be the safest route but this may not be my daily driver for much longer so kicking around trying to make it run with the big boys.

video: sounds badass. cutting up just how i like it. what did it make on the dyno. i took it to the track two weeks ago and ran a 14.9 as it sits.

I'm in the same boat as 97yukon except mine is a 2dr on 33's, gotta pick a setup by Monday so I can get it to my mechanic :D

How about for a 2dr?

I have a CAI and upgraded to the MFI, does that help?

Would I need to go with the mail order tune just to get it to run with the cam and then do the live tune later?

I'm so jealous:leghump:you gotta tell me how much your build set you back, do you have a build thread anywhere?

If your staying with with the stock converter i would go with a cam below the 220's...

Have you asked Futral or even Thunder to spec a cam for you???

By induction I meant the intake design we are plagued with. It'll probably be a slow turd with the stock converter, but hey it'll sound good right? :blah:

Get it tuned locally if possible

:laughing1: Ya probably so, is there a stock converter from another vehicle or an aftermarket one that's not rediculously priced that will help that?

I'm not far from there at all :D How might I get in touch with this fella?

One from an S10 (L35 engine) of the same year as yours will stall higher, but may not be enough?

http://www.indipalass.com/ARCHIVE/TechCorner/ARTICLES/Torque Converter Upgrade.htm
:waytogo: THAT'S what I'm talk'n bout WILLIS! (a little Different Strokes humor there for those that are old enough to remember) A lot of good info there, how would one determine if that was enough stall?

I figure there's gotta be a handful of guys on this site that have nearly the same setup as me who have done this before. Trying to find out what they did, what worked, what didn't, ect. This site is sooooo good for this type of thing :D
