I'm wanting to get the Pioneer 8400 head unit installed in my Yukon. I'm just wondering if I should buy it and have it installed at the car audio shop or Buy my parts online them take them in to get installed? Which would be cheaper? I have done audio in my old vehicles but don't want to take a chance of messing this one up, not the great car audio guy. Thanks in advance.

This has been discussed before. I'll try to sum it up.

If you buy the stuff online, a shop is going to charge you to install it. If something goes wrong, YOU will have to pay them to uninstall it, ship it back, wait with NOTHING to get it back, pay to have it reinstalled.

If you buy it from a shop and they instal it, and something goes wrong, they do all that for free.

Make sense? Just because one is cheaper now, doesn't mean it will be better or cheaper in the long run...

You can buy them on eBay for $500 shipped. You also need a wire harness, dash kit and antenna adapter, and a steering wheel module if you want. I think the shop I took mine to wanted $700 for the same unit and they probably charge $100-150 to install it. You can probably save a little money buying it online but like Nate said, the shop is more likely to warranty the unit if you buy it there and have it installed there rather than buying online and bringing it to them. I read online its somewhat frowned upon to buy online then bringing it to a shop for installation b/c it cuts into their potential profit and customers expect them to warranty the equipment when it might be faulty to begin with. I've even read some shops won't install anything unless you buy it there. Anyways, just a few things to think about. I think if a warranty is important to you then buy it from a shop and have them install it. If not, you can save money buying it online and maybe installing it with a friend or bringing it to a shop.
