Howdy, i just bought my first car. A 2007 gmc yukon with 129,000 miles, i paid for 5000 dollars for it and i absolutely love it, its definitely a dream car for me. I've always loved cars, but obviously have never owned one until now, so i am brand new to the scene. My father failed me so i look to YouTube videos and random strangers on the internet for advice on how to keep my sweet ride driving. I honestly just learned how to replace a tire yesterday so that about where i'm at with my mechanical ability. This forum really looks awesome so i had to join and write a little about myself.

Welcome to the forum from Oregon. Post more pics please.

We recommend that you put all your rig(s) info in your signature so we all don’t have to guess at year, make, model, engine size, trans, rear axle locker…….etc. While you may have posted pertinent info in your first post, you may forget to do it again and the info is needed by us anyway. Makes it way easier on all members that attempt to help, to have that info right up front. It is also recommended that you take a pic of your RPO codes, on the inside cover of the glove box, and post that image in your signature. All this info will greatly help those that will try to help with a problem.

If there is any other info, like upgrades, mods or recent mechanical/maintenance work done, that would be helpful in any post as well. Too many times a question is asked by the poster and after about 10 responses we find out that the poster has done recent work to attempt to fix the problem or work that was done that SEEMS not related to the problem.

Not all Dad's are mechanically inclined but he brought you this far along didn't he? LOL Soon as I turned 15 my father mysteriously forgot all about cars too. That meant I was to take over maintaining the fleet and I did! In a few short years I could pull and engine and strip it down to a bare block in 58 minutes!

If you want to do the work you will need to start gathering tools a little at a time. Basic stuff first like wrench sets ad sockets and ratchets....etc. Lots of mechanical knowledge here. Just ask and be ready to answer questions. Will need to ask questions of you since we are not there with you. Pics posted help too.

Welcome to the forum from Iowa.

As has already been mentioned, folks here are willing to help. Not sure what your situation is with your father, but today is a new day.

As for tools, I have had good luck getting tools on the cheap by hitting up garage sales and even 2nd hand stores. Get the basics first and then add on as budget and need dictate.

When asking for help here, please understand that folks will be trying to explain stuff via words so be patient and understand that if something comes across as rude or mean, that is generally not going to be what’s meant. Sometimes we forget what we didn’t know coming out of the gate when we were starting out so we may skip over some things that we think are basics.

Youtube is a good source, but watch three or four different videos on a topic. You will soon find that some guys really know their stuff while others are like “hey, hold my beer while I make a video quick!” The time a guy was smoking a cigarette and not using non-sparking tools to remove a fuel pump was classic. Was waiting to see the video end in a fireball.
