I live in VT and travel to Maine and NH for ski comps for my kids all season. We need new tires on our 2023 z71 Tahoe. I need something that will plow through anything and keep me safe.
What does everyone suggest?

265/65R18? 275/60R20? 275/50R22? Which one?

General Grabber Arctic or BridgeStone Blizzak DM-V2 or Nokian HakkaPeliitta R5 SUV or Michelin X-ICE Snow SUV.

Welcome to the Forum from NH.

Pics of the truck, please.

You are already receiving sage advice from the knowledgeable folks on this Forum.

I cannot help you with snow tires, as I do not use them on my truck. But, if you want a tire that is excellent on wet and dry pavement, and has not failed me in any NH winter where I live, you may want to look at Michelin Defenders. They are quiet and will last for 70,000 miles.

Not trying to derail, but has anyone noticed that, despite the Michelin Defender LTX M/S2's inclement weather reputation,
they lack any 'Severe Snow Service Rating' / lack the 3-peak Mt SnowFlake symbol?
Not saying they don't deserve the certification - asking, why don't they have the certification?

(Lesser Michelin Defenders that are NOT LTX M/S2, do not perform as well in inclement weather.)

I had the Michelin tires one step more aggressive than the LTX tread. Can’t remember the name but they were great in snow and ice. I work Ski Patrol on weekends and need to go up even when the roads are closed. I plowed through as much as 20” of fresh light snow to get to work with those a couple times and did not need to chain up.

They were a little noisy on the road compared to the LTX which I also really liked. They also picked up rocks on any gravel road.

In California the CHP Tahoes all are ordered with Goodyear Wrangler tires, the CHP won’t accept any other brand? I have never used them but might be worth considering. Around Lake Tahoe there is snow and we get serious dumps, 1 to 4 feet of snow is common.

I run Nokian (Outpost nAT) tires in the summer (go figure), and studded Firestone Winterforce 2 in the winter. Once the winter tires wear out I'll probably migrate over to Nokians for the winter shoes as well. The all-terrain Nokians are Three-Peak Mountain Snowflake (3PMSF) rated, so even if I'm lazy about swappin on my winter wheels/tires, and a surprise storm lands on my head, I won't go sliding off the road. They have good specs for tire-wear, and aren't too loud, not even close to the over-rated BFG KO2s everyone loves worshiping.

You can obviously run them year-round with that 3PMSF rating, but I prefer to have studded snow tires for when the ice starts dropping from the sky. They are skinnier and have taller sidewalls, so they're a little less twitchy when it gets slick out.

Snow tires can vary in quaility and price, but if you're worried about ice, then get some that can be studded, or come pre-studded. It makes a huge difference.

We had Falken wildpeak at3w on our tahoe and they were great in the Wisconsin winters. The have the new design AT4W now which I heard was better.
