I’d say go with muffler. Borla makes really good mufflers. I have the pro xs and sounds really good. Not too loud but you know it’s there. You can have a conversation and my kids sleep in the Yukon. And it’s way cheaper. If it’s purely sound you’re going for id def just get a muffler. They run less than $200.BacDoc,
Thank you and appreciate the Intel on the exhaust/CarByte. As you mentioned, I'm inclined to do the muffler vice the cat back system. Good to hear CarBYTE is a "plug and go" system...definitely don't want to get into "tinkering" with any engine mods.

Update regarding my 5.3 single-side exhaust.I had a shop cut out the stock muffler and valve today and and put in this BORLA Pro XS Universal Muffler (#40359) on my 2023 5.3 Suburban with single exhaust. The drone inside is waaay too loud at 1800-2200 rpm. I don't know if it's because of the single exhaust, the stock turndown tip that's under the rear, or what, but I'm gonna have to figure something out to get rid of the drone. Either a resonator in front or swap it out for a different muffler.

Yea I live in a city. Most of my driving is stop and go. Was getting 15mpg before and now getting 12. On the highway (6hour road trip, I did it one way with and the other way without) 16 mpg on the way there and 17.8 on the way back. There was more traffic on the way there so I believe you would be right about highway driving. How much did your fuel economy tank? I have had a Range DFM disabler on my vehicle since 275 mi and my lifetime fuel economy for slightly over 10,000 miles is an average of 18 miles per gallon. So unless you do nothing but city driving and sit at traffic lights and stop signs all day I don't see the DFM disabler causing a significant change in fuel economy.
And BTW that's also run in 0W-40 oil as well.
Depending on the in town traffic, understand you get exactly 0 MPG as you sit stopped in traffic, at stop signs or traffic lights. The ASS will help some in those situations. But I did not buy this vehicle for fuel economy, it has a purpose to haul the family and gear.
On the highway I almost always get at least 18 MPG unless I enjoy the right pedal too much or I am driving over 75 MPH for long periods . This is with the Range DFM disabler, no ASS and 0W40 oil
