Carbyte also disables the DFM= cylinder deactivation so the engine is in v8 most of the time. Makes it sound better when running a louder exhaust.

BacDoc,

Thank you and appreciate the Intel on the exhaust/CarByte. As you mentioned, I'm inclined to do the muffler vice the cat back system. Good to hear CarBYTE is a "plug and go" system...definitely don't want to get into "tinkering" with any engine mods.

I’d say go with muffler. Borla makes really good mufflers. I have the pro xs and sounds really good. Not too loud but you know it’s there. You can have a conversation and my kids sleep in the Yukon. And it’s way cheaper. If it’s purely sound you’re going for id def just get a muffler. They run less than $200.

I ordered Carbyte off Amazon and hope it works as advertised. Reading the reviews it looks like a lot of the stellar 5 star reviews are from free product testers. The “verified purchase” reviews are just ok with some reporting that it doesn’t work or at the worst it causes problems.

I would be happy if it just gets rid of the auto stop feature. That is one of those features that nobody likes, doesn’t save any fuel and doesn’t make sense for longevity of the components. Every new car/truck that I have rented over last couple years has this auto stop. There has to be a reason and the repeated “emissions” or “mileage regulations” is not logical and I highly doubt there is any evidence of reduced emissions other than the fact that when engine is off there’s no carbon emissions. Same logic is if the car has no occupants it’s not going to have fatalities.

I ordered one the other day, waiting on delivery. So like you mentioned, I hope that it works (as advertised).

I’d you’re getting the Carbyte “just” for the auto stop kill feature, then consider getting the AutoStop Eliminator wiring harness instead.

My neighbor has a 2025 AT4 and he just purchased one of the AutoStop Eliminators because there is not a current combination DFM/Auto Stop bypass solution for the 2025 models. So this along with driving in L9 most of the time will be his primary mode of operation. He is still waiting on the device, but will hopefully have it installed soon.

I had a shop cut out the stock muffler and valve today and and put in this BORLA Pro XS Universal Muffler (#40359) on my 2023 5.3 Suburban with single exhaust. The drone inside is waaay too loud at 1800-2200 rpm. I don't know if it's because of the single exhaust, the stock turndown tip that's under the rear, or what, but I'm gonna have to figure something out to get rid of the drone. Either a resonator in front or swap it out for a different muffler.

Sam
Update regarding my 5.3 single-side exhaust.

I tried a bigger Vibrant resonator but it made no difference. The drone inside measured at 100db. I couldn't keep it that way so bit the bullet and had the Corsa cat back installed since they guaranteed no drone.

The drone is gone. The low end tone of the exhaust is gone, too, so it sounds more like a snarl than a roar, and it's much louder outside than before, but overall I'm happy with it.

I would have like to have tried a J pipe, longer Borla muffler, piping out the side instead of the stock turndown, or a spiral-type resonator instead of the chambered Vibrant to fix the drone of the initial Borla CS muffler replacement, but didn't want to keep throwing money at unknowns.

Great post! We're getting ready to pick up a 2023 Yukon AT4 6.2L, and I had originally planned to install the GM Performance Exhaust myself. However, if this setup can achieve a similar or comparable sound at a fraction of the price, I might go this route instead.

I may have missed it in your post, but how was it installed? Is this a simple drop the old and bolt-on mod, or did a shop need to do any cutting or welding?

Thank you!

I have the carbyte and though I like not having auto stop/start, I don't mind having DFM. MPG went WAY down using the carbyte and when I'm on the app and turn off v8 mode, it also makes the start stop work again, it's either on/off on both at the same time, doesn't like me do one or the other.

How much did your fuel economy tank? I have had a Range DFM disabler on my vehicle since 275 mi and my lifetime fuel economy for slightly over 10,000 miles is an average of 18 miles per gallon. So unless you do nothing but city driving and sit at traffic lights and stop signs all day I don't see the DFM disabler causing a significant change in fuel economy.

And BTW that's also run in 0W-40 oil as well.

Yea I live in a city. Most of my driving is stop and go. Was getting 15mpg before and now getting 12. On the highway (6hour road trip, I did it one way with and the other way without) 16 mpg on the way there and 17.8 on the way back. There was more traffic on the way there so I believe you would be right about highway driving.

Depending on the in town traffic, understand you get exactly 0 MPG as you sit stopped in traffic, at stop signs or traffic lights. The ASS will help some in those situations. But I did not buy this vehicle for fuel economy, it has a purpose to haul the family and gear.

On the highway I almost always get at least 18 MPG unless I enjoy the right pedal too much or I am driving over 75 MPH for long periods . This is with the Range DFM disabler, no ASS and 0W40 oil

Is your car 4wd? My 2WD Escalade would get 18-20 mpg on the highway with the RANGE obd2 thing that disables AFM. My current escalade is 4wd and would get 18mpg on the highway max without it, 16-17 is more likely (I do usually drive around 80-85mph).

I don't care too much about mpg, just stating I notice a difference. My last 3 cars were escalades with 6.2's and my first one I was avg 15mpg on the highway and 11 in the city (I had heavy 24 inch wheels on it).

2024 Yukon Denali 4WD with stock 22 inch wheels and tires. Also depends where in the country you are located. I am in the Mid Atlantic region. Some hills, some lower mountains (3500 tops) but my regular travel route does not usually take me higher than 1000 feet

Just depends on how hard I work to get ahead of the left lane campers.

I have the Range module installed on my 2021 HC Suburban and so far I like it. I also installed a Walker Dyno Max muffler 17789, 30 inches long and 3" all the way through. I cut the old muffler out and welded in the new one. I also removed the valve in front of the muffler. It has a pleasnat tone at idle, just a little louder than the stock "dual" exhaust and it sounds good driving. I used this same muffler on other Suburbans before and have been happy with it. I typically have seen a mile or two improvement on the freeway. I was surprised about the valve and how the stock muffler necked down inside it.
