Any module out there yet to turn the FOG LIGHTS auto-on with the headlights?

Hey all,

I was able to buy a module for my '02 whereby my fog lights came on automatically with my headlights, but I don't see anything out there for the '07+s.

Anyone know of anything yet?

Yes, I like the look with the fogs on. But, I also like the fact that it puts more light on the shoulder/sides of the road, too. And yes, I'm lazy, so I'd like something to turn the lights on automatically so that I don't have to.

Thanks,

The NBS fogs are so weak that even when used as foglites they are rather hapless. Just try them w/o the headlites at nite to see how little illumination they provide.

You're right man. I am going to cut mine off of my bumper tonight!

Someone on another forum did a write up as I recall. I do not know if this forum has anyone with that expertise.

Hey Shark -- I know you're kind of "anti-fog/running-light," but I'm not looking to light up the night sky with these. I know what light they provide. I wasn't asking about their output, rather how I could get them to come on with the headlights. For me, they light up the sides of the road well enough.

Thanks for the reply.

You maybe able to pull the fog light circuit out of the fuse box and tie it to the parking lamps or headlights.

Md -- Yeah, that's above my skill level. LOL Sounds like there is a market for a pre-wired module that can be spliced into the existing system. I just don't know enough about it to be able to make it myself.

On my 2001 pickup it was pretty easy. I never did the mod, but if memory serves me a jumper wire (or resistor or capacitor) was run between 2 functions in the fuse box. Like mentioned above. It sounded pretty simple. I'm not sure it applies to the new body style. I would like to do it too. No stock fog lights are outstanding, I just like the look better when they are on.

I'll ask some of the electrical engineers here at work what they think.

Hey thanks, Mr. B! I would imagine that it'd be a relatively simple set up for an electrical engineer to diagram. Keep us posted, please!

I wish I could get them to come on with the DRLs.

Probably the same basic wiring, just a different source.

People did that mod for my old 4Runner. IIRC it involved modifying the fog light relay to take power from the DRL source instead of it's own.

Why can't you just use a relay to turn the fogs on either w/ the DRLs or headlites? Just wire the relay coil to the circuit you want to use to turn them on and pick up a 12V source to feed to the fogs.

You could do that. I wouldn't like it because then you individual lose control of the lights.

I'm fine with just pressing the button. Ideally if I could figure out how to make it retain it's on/off setting between start ups that would work for me.

SW CT,
What is needed is a small diode, some 16-20ga. stranded wire, either some butt connectors or solder(preferred) and electrical tape or heatshrink. Take diode and add about 2" of wire to each end of diode...locate the lowbeam relay and fog light relay in underhood fuse box...on each relay locate the 85 terminal...wrap wire around each 85 leg and reinsert relays making sure that the stripe on the diode is facing the lowbeam relay. This will make your fogs turn on with lowbeams and stay on when you turn on highbeams. You can still use the foglight switch to turn on just the fogs and running lights during daytime or turn auto headlight feature off and then push switch.

**DISCLAIMER**
Do all this at your own risk..I am not responsible for any misfortunes/damages that may happen due to this mod.

yep. so will a 1 amp . you are tricking the low current side of the relay.
3 amps at 14v = 42 watts... :)
1 amp = 14w

both are MORE than ample for the deciamps of current used to energize the coil.

of course you can't turn them OFF when the lowbeams are on if you do this.

i did it on mine(nbs)...without the stranded wire, just stuck the ends of the diodes in the correct slots and stuck the relays back down on top, making sure the diode wire wasnt touching any other connector on the relays.

I went out and looked at it for a min. I didn't see anything that looked like an 85 terminal. Anyone have a picture of there diode installed to help me with this?

dude, it says it on the fuse box diagram. every single relay has an 85 terminal.

You're right, I went and looked again. Kinda dark and raining outside. Thanks
