2016 Yukon, 8L90, 6.2: I flushed the fluid 2200 miles ago, I drive 3.5 miles to work and 3.5 back twice a day ( bad I know ), engine does get up to temperature and the trans gets up to 125 degrees.

I took a long trip, 4 hour drive one way and some serious mountain drive ( million dollar road ). I was witching the trans temp the hole time and never seen more them 210 degrees.

When I got home, I looked at the fluid and it was orange and smelled burnt. Shifting seems normal but, when trans temps are below 75 degrees it has what feels like a flat spot under heavy acceleration. Starts to move then a slam like bushings are bad but goes away when trans temps are above 75.

What could cause the fluid to burn? Could my trans temp gauge be wrong? Hot spots?
I am thinking Torque Converter.

My first steps would be to replace the pan with one that has a drain plug, drain and fill again, and replace the transmission thermostat with the one that opens at 165, or just bypass it. If the TC is bad usually it has a shudder to it and the RPMs will float a bit.

I don’t have a problem dropping the pan to drain it out, and fill. I did the flush last time and will do it again.
I can’t remember if I had a thermostat delete in it last time it did something similar.
I dropped the pan and deleted the dampers with an upgraded valve body bottom and add what I thought was a fluid that did not mix well with what was left in the trans and contaminated all the fluid so I flushed it.

I have an appointment with a transmission shop on Wednesday. I will let you know what they say.

I already have fluid on order and reinstall the thermostat bypass.

I tried to order the updated thermostat but it was not.
Where can I find an updated thermostat?
