You can use an ad244 145amp out of a newer tahoe( '03) they put out close to 200 amps at idle and fit in the existing mounting bracket.you will need a slightly longer serpentine belt to accommodate the larger alternator though

200 at idle for a 145 amp alt? not exactly true but they are better. The belt get replaced with longer and a rear support bracket needs to be removed first before new on goes in what is considered a bolt-in installation.

Wondering if the 1999 Tahoe is a 2pin or 4pin wire harness on the alternator

Mine measured 180amps at idle and 190 right off idle..working great so far.i don't recall removing the rear support bracket, but it has been awhile since I installed it.cant remember how many pins the connector had either, but I do know it plugged in without replacing/switching the connector.

Yesr.the ad244 from an 03 hoe.it was bogging down after I first installed it (turned out to be a loose ground strap) so I threw the amp probe on it and it was putting out 180-something amps at idle.thought maybe it was defective so I investigated online and the higher than rated output seems to be normal
Also.the belt for the 244 alternator is 4060967 (gatorback)

I bought one rated at 200 on eBay a few years back, fixed my issue with batteries not fully charging when my system it's running, never measured actual output though.

okay i had the 145 alternator originally in my tahoe and i got no were near the current you guys are talking about at idle my stereo system was roughly 2500 watts true RMS so it would pull up to 170 amps of current and i literally killed a brand new battery in a month because i was pullin more juice then the alternator could put out so it was constantly stealing it from the battery i had go all the way of to a 250 amp alternator
and besides why the hell would you get 180 amps out of a 145 amp alternator at idle just about every alternator ive ever seen puts out a lower output at idle and max output at a higher RPM if not why the hell call it a 145 amp alternator
my 250 amp gets about 90 to 100 amps at idle and about 200 at about 2000 rpm
