For those looking for more power. I had the wimpy 105amp alt and while driving I would barely be at 12.44volts.
For those with the 96-99 vortec 5.7 motor. The alternator that’s a direct bolt in is the 2002 Tahoe 5.3 145amp alternator, also called the AD244 upgrade.
As a preference this is expensive, it’s about $294 at Oriellys. I did not find the correct one at Autozone or on Amazon.
The one on Amazon does not have bolt holes that line up, they are too wide.the one I bought from Oriellys is a perfect bolt up to the 96-99 GMT400 trucks. The electric plug is the oval 4 pin.
I had read that you need a replacement serpentine belt that was larger, about 97”, however the stock size 96 Tahoe belt was perfect.
Hope this helps anyone looking for upgrade. I now have 14.4 volts at idle with no lights on and 13.8 with lights and fog lights on, stereo on too.
