Hey I have an '04 Tahoe with Bose. I'm plan on replacing my factory head unit, probably with a touchscreen from Crutchfield. The description on Crutchfield says it will be a modified fit. Anyone know what that means exactly? Is it the rear brace behind the stereo? If so, is that a real issue removing/bending that brace?

Thanks.

Okay so it definitely means I have to cut out that rear brace, yes?

Does anyone have a photo of the rear brace cut out on an 03-06 (if it matters), couldn't find any via search.

I've installed hundreds without removing anything more than some of the plastic at the back of the radio bucket.
tip: sometimes its also easier to remove the entire top dash pad to make sure no wires get hung up when the radio goes in.

Very easy, very worth it..
The opening needs to be filed out some too for the larger face of the double din

Thanks and woah thats weird, I actually went ahead and did it without the pics early yesterday but I did not have to cut that at all. I had a weird setup i guess where the only thing blocking it was some black plastics in the radio shell (two small black triangles on either side of and a little hump), I was able to keep the whole rear metal brace. I don't know if its because my tahoe is weird or my radio was small but I got to pull it out again later anyways so ill post pics for the curious

Edit: Ohh I see you have the 00-02 model looking at your AC controls, that slipped by me at first, makes sense now. Also your install definitely came out a lottt better than mine. Nice **

Yeah I guess you got lucky lol.. My double din was solid metal all the way back and the bracket wouldnt let it go in the last inch.. But yeah the newer model has the true double din cd player and you can avoid this small headache! Thanks BTW!

DCT, it's just a extra dash support I guess

I'm about to do mine tonight. Thanks for the pic! I was just about to post this pic to ask what I needed to cut. Haven't tried to shove it in there yet, so maybe, according to others, I may not need to cut anything. Hope that's the case.

Thanks for everyone's input.

I just sanded down the top of the plastic piece to fit mine in until it was flush with the bottom of the lip. I also had to sand down the corners on either side of the plastic notch (rear radio support) as well. In retrospect though I still dont know if it was necessary for all of it or I jumped the gun when it wouldnt fit the first time.
