I have a few questions. First one is..will an HID bulb fit into an aftermarket fog light?? Seems that most aftermarket fogs take h3 bulbs..wondering if an h3 hid light will fit or if they are too long.

second question is..how do i mount aftermarket lights onto my brush guard?? I have a westin brand guard but it just has 1 inch tubes, and no mounting tabs. I dont want to weld onto it as it is stainless steel..so how can one clamp a bracket on that will allow a light to be bolted up? All i have come up with was mounts that cost like $40+ was hoping there is a cheaper way.

Planning on ditching the stock fogs as they suck..even with my hids...i want to use my stock harness (so i can use the switch on the dash), mount the lights on my brush guard and then install the hid's in them. Was looking at KC's, hellas...or even a no name brand if it will fit the hid bulbs.

Also on the 6 hi mod..is there a way to make your fog lights respond to the switch? SO if the switch is on they will stay on when on low and high..but if u push the switch make it shut them off completely?

no responses anyone?? I did find someone on you tube that put hid's in a set of kc hilites. So i guess that part can be done. As far as mounts..looks like custom mounts or buy the spendy ones off the internet.

So that leaves the 6 hi mod deal....anyone know if it can be done?? Just want to be able to select the fog lights at all times. So they can be on, on low beam and hi beam.(like the 6 hi mod). OR when i switch to hi beams..be able to shut the fogs off using the switch. Reason for wanting this option is that in MN it is "illegal" to run more than 4 lights at one time...so if i am in a well travelled area i want to be able to turn off the fogs...if i am on remote country roads i want to have them all on.

I guess my question to you is why do you need aftermarket fogs? Just get HID's in the ones already there and save yourself a lot of trouble.

my stock fogs really suck!! I put new fogs in a year ago(one broke during some winter off roading while hunting), and i installed an hid kit... it seems when i go to aim the fogs that they hit my bumper and don't let me raise them up enough to have any effect. Like the spring on the adjusting bolt is too short or not strong enough to push the lens up... i tried steching the spring and was going to try washers as spacers..but i think the light itself just hits the plastic bumper so it can't go up anymore.

my other reason for aftermarket is to get a larger light housing, and move them up so I don't bust them up again. I see a lot of these style trucks/suvs with at least one fog light all messed up...not sure if that is common or just a MN thing SOO aftermarket lights stop me from busting up stock ones that are down low under the bumper, plus i can aim them a lot more accurately.

Get some Hella or Lightforce auxiliary lights that are already HID and save yourself some hassle on the conversion, maybe?

when I installed the hids in my stock foglights, I had to cut out the metal bracket reflector on the inside so that the bulb wouldnt be pressed into it. I think removing that changed the light output and will probably keep it from breaking.

As far as buying aftermarket lights that are already HID...only if i win the lottery!!! most of the already hid lights are around $350+ (a lot seem to be in the 500 range) and are for "off road" use only. Not sure i have seen one that was a fog..mainly driving or long range lights.

even a set of kc hilites or hellas are around 120( i was gonna go way cheap w/ a no name brand), plus i already have my hid kit i would just need the new bulb for the new lights. Seems like most fogs take the h3 instead of the 880 that i already have.

Anyone have a good way to protect the stock fog lights?? I know i wrecked mine when i busted through a snow drift, and that cheap plastic mount on the stock lights exploded into pieces. Do they make a factory fog light grille protector or something? If i can find a way to not wreck the stock ones i will just use those, and it would be worth pulling it apart to cut the metal reflector out...but i hate to cut it out and have them working good only to rip one off on a snow drift and have it wreck my wiring and everything for the hid kit..

Eh its already snowing in southern mn!! nothing better than snow on the lawn in october :( This is gonna be a long winter if it is starting already.

You can get Hella 500's for about $40-50 bucks at Walmart.

And as soon as you start talking about aftermarket lights, they are all going to say "for off-road use only." Hell, I got some Osram halogen bulbs that go in normal headlights that say that. It's just legal protection for them since they aren't strictly DOT approved or legal.

You bake em or use a heat gun to seperate the lens from the housing, then remove the metal refletor from the housing. Reseal the lens using a silicone sealent.. instal bulb and voila!

My prediction: It'll be brighter then it was, but still not great. Silverstars are over-rated IMO. They are not going to make a mediocre lightbulb like an 880 suddenly a great lightbulb. And, once you go HID, silverstars will forever suck, comparatively. Let us know what you think.

I had some eBay 880 bulbs that looked badass (for halogen)

They gave off a wierd glare.. like blue and yellow at the same time. Pretty cool.. but HID is the way to go.

Not sure if HID's in our fogs is legal (I know for a fact that tampering with a halogen housing to accept an HID setup is illegal, but I'm not sure if that applies to aux. lights..)

I haven't made the jump in this vehicle yet to HID fogs, so I don't know if you have to modify the housings to fit the 880 HID's. My other car took H3's, and there was essentially no modification needed and it was probably 20 times brighter with HID's. Pretty amazing difference.

HID fogs is on my to do list, but right now I'm focused on finishing my TSX projector retro. Then I think I need to take a financial break from truck stuff for a while...lol.
