for you free :)

I initialy installed my usb where Nathan has it,,did not like all the cables there in front so i took it off and installed it where the cig lighter is inthe middle console, like it a lot more, concealed and tucked away. took about 15 min (what took the most time was running the cable under the console).

I ended up getting one, and just plugging it into the 12 volt behind the trim with a usb 12 volt charger. So I have the port now, but it's just a charger.

I have a Bose non-Nav had unit but I did the same mod to use for charging only. Definitely an upgrade from having to use adapters in the power points.

Hello, I just purchased 2014 Yukon and had the Pioneer Avic z150BH installed. The installer put the usb in the glove comparrment, which I don't like. The dash USB has been disconnected and won't work anymore. Will the setup the OP did work for me as well? I hate having the dash USB not work while a functioning USB is in the glove compartment. Thx.

Edit: Guess I shoudl clear it up, I was told that if I wanted to use it for Apple, it couldn't go into the dash, cause it requires a dual cable.

It will work with Apple without the dual cable and yes it'll work in your dash like I have it to charge. Are you wanting to do audio/video as well and use this instead of the Pioneer accessory cables?

You won't be able to do video with this setup because of the way the radio uses the video/hdmi input. It will charge and do audio, that's it.

Had to go check my 08 Yukon...Looks like I don't have the USB feature, as I don't have the plug in the console. All the more reason to upgrade my head unit right?:happy3:

If you don't have USB on back of the radio I don't think you can do it without upgrading the head unit to a newer model with one or aftermarket.

That's what I have to use now that I have my ipad mini. Basically you take the plug out of your car and put the OEM usb plug in there. BEHIND the dash you put the plug back together and that USB charger piece in there.

So you'll get to this point...

and then plug this cable

in to that piece you linked to and the other side to the back of the OEM plug and put it all back together. I took the piece you linked and used electrical tape to make sure it didn't move or come apart behind the dash.

oh ok...makes sense!!! thanks !!

no problem. When I did my iPad mini install, I lost this function. I don't need it for the "storage" or input anymore since I have the mini, but it's nice to charge my phone by just throwing the USB on it instead of having a regular charger or even the piece you linked always sticking out.
