Are all 6.2’s from 21+ getting looked at? I have received a postcard and letters from several law firms looking to represent me, but at my last oil change, I noticed that the dealer put 0w20 in, so I asked if my truck was under the recall inspection and oil spec change, and he punched my vin in and said no, which kind of surprised me. Just wondering…

If you go to https://experience.gm.com/ and create and account, you can lookup you're VIN yourself - and see if you actually have a recall notice! You don't need to depend on a dealer.

For example, my 2021 went in for the PICO test and passed and this is what my VIN shows right now.... Notice the "L87 Engine Loss..." recall is listed as "Complete".

What year is your truck?

I think that the recall range was after a certain month [that the engine was built] in ‘21, and prior to a certain month in ‘24. So it’s conceivable that your engine was built before the recall window.

I just read an article that even after recall upgrades, some engines are still failing.

I read a report that stated GM used 3 vendors for the crankshaft components. They may be recalling only those engines from 1 or 2 vendors. However, all 6.2L and 5.3L engines are reported to have excessive valve lifter wear after 50-60k miles due to the V8/V4 BS they use to improve fuel economy.

I just ordered a 2026 Tahoe and I passed on the 6.2L engine because there are just too many unknowns.

This recall is very serious. I brought my Denali in to a dealer in September for the recall. They said nothing was wrong; just changed the oil and sent me on my way. In November I took my truck back in for a routine oil change the next day later my truck shut off on the highway and went into Neutral. The 1st time I was WTF! The second time I pulled out my phone. Corporate set up my appointment to bring my truck in. The dealership diagnosed it as engine failure. Now I’m 3weeks in waiting on a new engine and eating the loss.

Can you direct us to that report? If 3 vendors were used for those components, then it doesn't make sense for the recall window to be based on a 3-year build-window and not some other matrix. If they know which one or two of the vendors' [faulty] components were in which engines, then the recall would have been strictly VIN-related, wouldn't it?

Most of us here seem convinced that GM doesn't have a good handle on which components are in which engines, and/or realizes that the problem is much broader than they've let on.

As a former Tahoe, Yukon, Escalade and every other GM BOF SUV owner, the laminated (AKA “acoustic glass”) door window glass does make a difference on a couple of fronts. First, it does dampen the transmission of outside noise in the cabin. Second, and from a personal experience standpoint, it is MUCH safer than tempered glass. Two years ago I was driving up I-75 to the Southwest Regional Int’l Airport. If you’re not going at least 80 mph, you will get run over. I heard a very low volume, high pitch sound for what seemed like a nano second. My son said “dad, your window just broke”. I couldn’t see any windshield damage. He repeated his statement but added, YOUR door window broke. I had a vertical crack that branched out to an upside down “Y” on the window. Thank God my Lexus GX 460 had laminated glass, as the cracks were only on the outer layer of the laminate. At that speed, had it been tempered glass there’s no telling if everyone in the vehicle would have been literally blinded (for life) with the zillion bits of glass flying inside the truck. My guess is that intuitively, being blinded, I may have hit the brakes and Lord knows if we would have survived a horrific crash. Tempered glass has its merits in many applications, but I’m thankful we had tempered (acoustic) glass.

I know there's a tempered glass thread out there right now, but this ain't it.

Sell that Truck if you travel more than 20 miles from home or your wife drives w kids! The engine WILL FAIL!! 5K-50K miles. Mine almost killed me at 40K miles....first time! On super highway ! Total, instant engine failure...no power steering or brakes. GM really blew it with their 8-4, V-8 engines. MinefailedevenwtbeRange Extender device that Stops the 4 cyl mode! If ya like the looks/ features of the vehicles....go 4cyl Turbo or Full electric . Lease only!! Cause they dependably last only 3-4 years. Get new one.....

Best,

Just picked up my 2022 Tahoe from dealer . New motor. 22K miles. I’m led to believe my new motor is from the US factory and not Mexico ( Crank/bearings) I hope so. Wouldn’t make much sense for GM to give me another of the same problematic engine.

How long from breakdown to pickup?

I took it in Friday 12/11 for recall. They called about 1 week later saying I failed and they were ordering a new motor. They called 12/31 saying my motor arrived. That seemed fast. I picked it up 1/23. 6 weeks total. I thought that was pretty good. Two different Subaru loaners . An Ascent and then a Forrester.

You assume that GM has traceability. That's the fallacy. All the parts from all the vendors or internally made, go in one big bin. No. First in, first out. No, separated by who made them. Just a big pile of parts that they assume that are all good. That's why you can get three good engines in a row, and then get a bad one, then get 6 bad ones in a row. The only true way to know what went where is to serialize things. And that ain't happening.....
