22" chrome wheel leaks

It fixes it long enuf to forget about it until it’s time for new tires. You may want to use a paint stick on inside of leaky rim’s tire and write “buff & seal”.

Two years from now your tire installer will hopefully mention it to you so sealant can be applied again to avoid the $75 reseal process.

I got a few nails in the tires and had 2 tpms go out. After fixing the tires one of the rims still leaked.

Fortunately, eventually I remembered three of the 4 22” rims needed to be sealed with goop during installation. I still have a very slow leak in one tire from a TPMS install. The $75 buff & seal is an expensive lesson if done after the initial install.

I have 20" factory chrome rims on my 2011 Tahoe since day one and have had this happen to me twice in 14 years. It was only in the last 2 years , both times it was the TPMS stems that were replaced and never have had the issue again. I had the same issue on my wife's Audi last year on both front tires.

I have a 2007 Escalade with the OEM 22" chrome wheels. The front left tire keeps leaking down. So far, two different shops have failed to fix it.

The second shop blamed the factory wheels, and put a sealant on the bead. He said it might not work, and it hasn't.

So, any ideas for a solution?

My oem 22s on my 19 Denali were leaking. All of them. I pulled the tires off, wire wheeled the inside lip, knocked all the loose corrosion off, then put bead sealer on the wheel only. Cleaned the tire bead and remounted them. So far so good.

As much as these "accessory" wheels cost, it's pretty ****** they peel/"rust" like that.

I had my local tire shop remount two of my 22 inch chrome rims with bead sealant - worked well to address slow leaks - like 5 psi down after 2 weeks. They said the chrome finish around the rim loosens and creates an air path that's between the base rim (alloy) and the chrome finish. They'd obviously seen it before and whatever bead sealant they used did the trick. They didn't seem to mind using the bead seal, but it was after I'd bought a full set of pricey 22 inch tires, so I think they just took care of it. it worked well on my 2011 Yukon Denali.
