Got a 2026 about a month ago. The driver options for the alarm and auto braking will not stay turned off. Every time the car is turned off they all reset to have both the alarm and auto braking for everything. The dealer spent a day uploading and updating the software and nothing. They say they can’t figure out why it keeps turning all that stuff black on.

Anybody got any ideas or dealt with this.

Thanks for any comments…

Does the vehicle owner’s manual (available online) state that the auto braking system can be turned off and remain off?

What alarm are you referring to?

No ideas on how to fix but I’d return to the dealer and insist the vehicle be repaired.

Keep meticulous records as you may have to invoke your state’s vehicle lemon law.

I have a 2026. I keep those features on but I’ll disable them next drive and see if it stays off.

It may be a software setting where if you disable it it’s only disabled for that drive cycle. Kind of like the auto start/stop. I am guessing that’s the case and it’s working as intended.

The dealer says that it should stay off once I go in and set it to no alarm or activation. They are saying that the other Tahoes it stays off and only reset to on if they go in and change the settings.

It seems weird that they have the options active and then they don’t stay as manually set.

I thought I had it all turned off and it reset without my knowledge and almost wrecked me out on a sharp turn when it thought an oncoming vehicle was going to head on. Seems dangerous to me.

Long ago, owned a '94 Fleetwood LT1. Unlike Caprice/RoadMaster, it came with Acceleration Slip Regulation, aka Traction Control.
(Side benefit of Traction Control is 4Channel ABS. Caprice/RoadMaster had 3Channel ABS; lacking Traction Control, 3Channel ABS was cheaper for GM then.) ANYWAY
Even back in the 90s, had to open the glovebox to disable Traction Control each & every time I restarted the engine.
Collective efforts of the ImpalaSS Forum over nearly 2 decades never found how to disable ASR upon startup by default.

GM's beancounters & legal depts seem to 'agree' that GM's arse is better covered by forcing the driver to disable these 'safety features' upon each startup.
You get what you pay extra for, I guess.

For the record I think that the driver(s) should have the option of temporarily OR permanently disabling any combination of 'safety features' as they see fit,
until they decide to reenable any combination as they see fit.

But it's easy to imagine that GM fears a scenario where a driver's 'failure' to enable a 'safety feature' results in them suing after a calamitous collision,
"The default should be always on til the driver intentionally countermands the safety feature!"

I happen to know that Porsche allows the driver the option of disabling the ABS; however,
ABS will TEMPORARILY re-enable so long as the (adjustable) Stability Control happens to be in use/effect, immediately after which the ABS re-disables.

I thought the auto braking was only for reverse???? Mine has activated once (reverse) and it actually saved me from a collision.

I’ll sometimes get the red line on the HUD if it thinks I’m going to hit something but it never auto brakes in forward gears.

Btw on the way to work today o turned off the auto braking. I’ll let you know if it’s still disabled when I go home.

So this what I get for giving you crap today. I traded my 21 Tahoe last week for a 26 Cadillac Vistiq. I’m loving not buying gas and 0-60 in 3.7. But, today I was backing into a parking spot which has a sidewalk behind it and a guy walked by on the sidewalk. The brakes slammed on like I hit a wall. I was startled thinking I had hit something, then I realized what happened. Big relief once I figured out what happened.

Dealer now says they need to open a ticket or something with GM cause they don’t know what to do. Lame…

I hate that crap…

My 2021 Yukon Denali has done a few 'automatic braking' episodes at 60-70mph with everything I can turn off, turned off. The manual says it can occur but has no info on user control - so I presume that's on purpose.

Each time, it's been a false positive while I was towing a 5500lb trailer (we mostly use the rig to toe). To me, it's at the threshold of being dangerous rather than helpful. It has occurred twice on a 2-way highway when the oncoming vehicles get a little close to the center-line at 60-70mph speeds coming towards me at 65mph. These were multi-second significant slowdowns.... from 65mph to 50mph'ish.... very aggressive, enough to worry me about trailer instability / scared me thinking the rig was going to shut down. It also occurred on an interstate at 65mph passing a truck / going round a slight right-turn in fast lane with construction barriers along the left edge of the road - e.g. sort of boxed in. It did 3 aggressive jerks over several hundred feet of the turn - enough that someone tailgating might get to close. Again, I worry about jerking the trailer behind me on a corner at 65mph.

I really don't like that this 'uncommanded breaking' software trend (not ready for real-life) and don't like that it's not under my control.

The real issue is the sensitivity of this. I have noticed after a few updates on my 2025 that I get the red flashing impending crash symbol more often than ever when things are briefly in front of me. It doesn't jab the brakes, but I imagine at some point it will. It is activated the rear braking when it sees cross traffic when I am backing out of my garage even though it is 50 to 70 feet away. Where I back out from backs up to a busy cross street and it senses the crossing traffic even though it has a 20 foot berm between me and the road. It thinks you are backing into that traffic even though there's no way you can do it. It would be nice if you could pick a low medium and high sensitivity for each of these things....

When the auto brake comes on at 65 MPH it scares the crap out of you. Haven't tried turning if off yet as I keep forgetting and dread having to figure out where to do so. The car should not auto brake when you are already applying the brake. Not smart enough to know you know you have slow down. I wonder if hitting the brakes that hard hurts anything.

I do have rear auto brake off and it has not turned itself back on.

My wife has all that crap turned on, on her rig, when I drive it and it starts to do the auto braking I just push the gas pedal down and it rejects the braking and keeps going

And this is EXACTLY what happened to me. Oncoming car in a corner…I was already applying brake for my turn. The alarm AND full on braking went on simultaneously and not only startled me in a turn…but I was doing about 55-60 and it threw the truck into a slide sideways.

I wonder if hitting the brakes that hard hurts anything?
If hitting the brakes THAT HARD breaks ANYTHING, despite NOT being in any type of collision with anything else (as in, 'otherwise uneventful panic braking event'),
the vehicle was so badly maintained to begin with, that it was near-as-makes-no-difference already broken.
The alarm AND full on braking went on simultaneously and not only startled me in a turn ... but I was doing about 55-60MpH and it threw the truck into a slide sideways.
Someday, you might look back on this, and think, "my truck was oversteering at about 60MpH", and smile.
