If you installed your own in the overhead console how would you access the GM cameras? They are a proprietary video format with encryption are they not? While the screens/concept all look good, this very much screams 'subscription' to me and not something that I plan on paying for, which means I might end up installing my own.
I don't follow what you are asking. If you installed your own in the overhead console how would you access the GM cameras? They are a proprietary video format with encryption are they not?
Ah...ok I thought you meant you had found a non OEM interior camera and were going to install it and access it remotely. I got excited that you may have found a work around to skip the subscription part while getting access to interior/exterior video. I will calm down now and bow to the Onstar subscription that I will be forced to pay for .I don't follow what you are asking.
If I installed my own, I wouldn't be using GM's camera. My post meant that if GM offered the cameras but only over a subscription, then I have no use for GM's camera. I don't want to pay to view the camera footage for a vehicle that I own.
It is just another money grab, unfortunately. All the needed to do with the cameras is thrown in a 512gb or 1tb sd card where local footage is saved and the owner could view/save, as needed. Offer the onstar subscription for those that want more storage/history and now you make everyone happy.I’m thinking maybe the OnStar subscription will only be necessary for the storage and not general usage but I could be wrong.
That's exactly what they did for the Escalade. It is just another money grab, unfortunately. All the needed to do with the cameras is thrown in a 512gb or 1tb sd card where local footage is saved and the owner could view/save, as needed. Offer the onstar subscription for those that want more storage/history and now you make everyone happy.
I just went through all my App in that "See All Apps" and I don't have it so lets hope its just an update required. This is just verification that at least the software is definitely installed so it’s promising to know we’re one step closer to getting some resolution on this matter.
2026 Surround View Camera
Check out the above Youtube short showing the video recording feature on the 2026
Unless GM does what they did with feature shortages coming out of Covid - promise they'll be installed in the future and eventually just issued a $50 part credit when GM probably decided that installing the parts on already-sold vehicles was not worth the cost in time/labor since they had already collected the profit from selling the vehicle in the first place. Now that it’s actually available in the flesh so to speak, we can get this installed since most of the hardware that we need to complete our vehicles will be stocked going forward and software updates should be available also. Fingers crossed.
So I am presuming you own a 2026 Yukon and thats why your seeing this feature but its still not pushed out to the 25MY Tahoe/Yukon/Escalade vehicles?A few updates for folks. Sharing some shots from a 2026 Yukon with the Recordings feature.
A few notes:
- You need to plug in a USB 3.0 in the front center area. Downside is this reduces the chargers to a single USB C for the entire front row (no chargers in center console anymore)
- It records all exterior cameras while you’re driving, and says it will activate if your vehicle is parked/off and alarm is triggered or vehicle hit.
- No recording or mention of the interior camera. There is also no other feature or setting that references the interior camera.
I showed this to my dealer service guys and was told Cadillac only, not for Yukon's or Tahoe'sLooks like a trip to the dealership for an update might be needed. Saw a post that someone with a 25 Escalade has the recorder app now after a few modules were updated by the dealer. https://www.reddit.com/r/Cadillac/s/VDwnlYkwVx
