Our 2025 Tahoe is one year old, purchased new. HomeLink has always worked until recently. The screen appears normal; we drive into neighborhood then the garage door icon appears. We touch the screen icon but not opening door, also not allowing and additional programming of remotes. I was hoping someone had a simple solution to this issue. Thank you in advance.

Did you recently have an update? By remotes do you mean key fobs or garage remotes? My homelink acts up once in a while and I have to reprogram the buttons.

Dry fingers, very light touch… seems to respond differently in the winter

Yep, GM really messed this one up, we have the same Infotainment screen in our 2025 Yukon and our 2026 Terrain Denali and both work maybe 50% of the time, sometimes it takes multiple taps/presses to get the doors to work! The old Homelink system never ever failed to work. We now keep manual remotes in both vehicles "just in case"!

My 2024 Tahoe Premier has the “old” style Homelink buttons. They always work, including if you’re wearing winter gloves.

My wife’s new 2025 Equinox RS AWD has the new-style tiny icon that appears and disappears on the screen. It also only works about one-half of the time and do not even try to operate the tiny icon, stuck between other tiny icons, if you’re wearing gloves.

I don’t understand how GM went to this stupid, hard-to-operate system, that is often used several times a day? I’m convinced GM has young snowflakes designing their vehicle software and controls and the designers have very little if any experience actually driving and using a motor vehicle.

Same issue with our '25 Yukon. Our '26 Sierra Denali Ultimate works just fine, but maybe that's because it still has the "dumb" buttons ... just three buttons versus the six touch screen positions on the Yukon. Just a guess, but I think the issue might be around the GPS interlock, the system needs verify that you are actually in the location of the door you're trying to open, seems to take a few seconds to get that accomplished. I've tried long and short touches, the short seems to work better. When all else fails I will try one of the other garage doors (I have a 3 door garage), that seems to work, then I get out and go inside to manually open the door I need.

Agree, this is something which needs a software update!

Hello Big Mama. The homelink that is controlled in the dash. It won't allow me to add or delete; it will not open garage door.

Last year I replaced my 2 garage doors with the latest hurricane resistant. My ’05 Homelink works 90% of the time.
I keep the reliable Liftmaster remote ….. I was told, sometimes, the WiFi in the garage messes with the signal from the Yukon.

Wifi signals are much higher than the GDO frequency, so you can rule out wifi as the cause. Metal doors, if you have them, can block the signal from the opener remote, sort of like a partial Faraday cage or enclosure.

What you may need to do is erase them or go through the procedure if they don’t show up and reprogram them.

My LiftMaster remote works every time. My LiftMaster signal to my Homelink in the truck is a signal box designed for my “pre- ’07 year”. No big deal….. It’s a little annoying, that’s all…..

Your Liftmaster doesn't transmit to the truck, it's the other way around. The GDO receives a coded signal from the remote, whether that's from the OE, aftermarket, or HomeLink device, and knows if that's a valid paired unit to act upon. Note that some aftermarket remotes seem to have stronger transmitters than some of the older ones, and your HomeLink device might just be a weaker transmitter.

My Liftmaster transmitter is their latest version. Specifically for the pre- ’07 year model vehicles.
Maybe I’ll re-pair it……. But it works most of the time…. So technically, it is paired…..
Maybe I’ll pair it to my middle button in the Yukon….. ( I never used the middle button )

If you plan them they’ll both work. In my 07 I had to reprogram our right side garage door 2-3 times a year but the other one always worked. Very odd but its electronic so who knows.

I'm not sure about the later rigs, but on my '04 I think the HomeLink is active without the ignition on. Which is a security issue if the vehicle is parked outside and someone wants in my garage or house.

I tested my ’05…..ignition key out….. The door will close but unable to open.

Try locking the vehicle using the remote or the door lock switch - while inside the vehicle, then try the Homelink button?

On many GM vehicles, when the vehicle is locked (windows up or down), the Homelink button is disabled by the BCM. When the vehicle is unlocked, the Homelink button is enabled.

I leave my truck unlocked and open the door to reach homelink but maybe that’s a new safety feature. It would make sense.
