Hey family, so I'm doing the DOD delete on my 09 yukon 5.3l and I purchased a kit from AMS racing. Just your standard delete kit with tuning. I've broken everything down, replaced the cam shaft and now I'm ready to replace the lifters.

Quick question, does it matter if the lifters don't include the flex fuel replacements? I'm hoping not because if so, I've got to come out of pocket even more...

I sure hope they didn't give you one of them little camshafts from the previous generation. Did you replace the lifter trays and valley cover? How about the driver's side valve cover? What brand are the lifters?

im guessing the delete kit only came with 8 lifters?
in which you would replace just the DOD lifters, the standard existing lifters would remain.

the lifters are specific for the dod system, flex fuel has nothing to do with it

No, It's a full set. With the LS7 style cam. Even the lifter trays are different. I'm wondering since the lifter trays differ from the block do I need to worry about them shaking loose.

The kit I have is from AMS racing. LS7 style cam with all lifters (no springs). The trays the sent don't match the block, and yes I changed the valley cover.

Most shops provide an LM7 camshaft which is smaller than your stock cam. If you want the same as your stock camshaft without the AFM lobes, then you would get an L33s camshaft.

Nevermind, I just seen your post right above. The word "Budget" scares me!

Lol, the budget just means less parts... I didn't need the entire kit so I got that one.

According to AMS's site:

"Base Kit Includes:
- AMS MLS head gaskets
- LS7 "style" lifter set with plastic guides
- Enginetech head bolt set
- GM 12689035 OEM 1 bolt Non-AFM camshaft (works with or without VVT)
- GM Non-AFM valley plate
- GM crankshaft bolt
- Timing cover gasket set"

The specs for that 12689035 cam are 190/191, .457"/.466", 114 LSA. So, it's basically a single bolt LM7 cam. Less lift and less duration but the tighter LSA would help to make up for some of the loss, at least in the low end. Probably not enough difference most would ever feel.

It's an LM7 style cam. The only thing "LS7 style" is that it's a single bolt. The lifters are LS7 style, which is the standard lifter GM uses. At that price, surely they're aftermarket, so beware. Not long ago, another member did an AFM delete with a budget kit and a lifter or two failed very shortly after. He had to tear into the engine again.

What do you mean they don't match the block? The non-AFM trays are different than the AFM ones.

Here's what I'm dealing with... How much of a deal is it if i just don't run flex fuel anymore? Also will the lifter trays move around without that support from the block negate of the notch in the tray?

Flex Fuel? You mean running E85? You don't have to run it. It's just an option. My Tahoe is Flex Fuel capable but I run regular 93 octane gasoline in it. I've put E85 in it and it runs fine, as it should. The only vehicles that would have a problem is if they weren't Flex Fuel capable. Flex Fuel vehicles usually have a badge on the body but they all should have a yellow gas cap:

As far as your AFM delete, those new trays are for non-AFM lifters. Yes, there is only one hump in the block. All four lifter trays are the same and can go in any position. With the AFM trays, there are two styles- one with the notch on the left and one with the notch on the right. You'd get two of each for an AFM engine. Since you're deleting AFM, you just install four of the same regular/non-AFM lifter trays (which you have). Ignore that "unused" notch.

I'm clear on the E85 and its uses. I just didn't know if the trays made a difference. THANK YOU so much for clearing that up. I'll have her buttoned up this weekend.
