The MM can in my silverado is setup exactly how they suggest for a boosted setup with a draft can and works fantastic so I'm not touching that.

Oh, I wasn't suggesting anything was wrong with the setup on your Silverado! I only meant that a boosted engine has totally different needs for PCV and I'm focusing on your NA Tahoe.

I'm leaning more towards PCV problems since there's oil in the intake and it's not leaking a drop. I have a driver side valve cover on my shelf and I looked at it today I see no check valve and there's certainly not one in the hose that was attached which could explain the oil issue.

The DS valve cover is the PCV "out" side. It controls the amount of flow via a fixed orifice diameter, no "rattling" classic style PCV valve. I'm still unsure about the passenger side.

I still don't see the point of the Clean air side when it could just suck oily air back in from the can when it's under vacuum not preasure and not have a chance of a check valve failing and causing oil back into the intake.

The clean air inlet is to help the crankcase vent more easily rather than relying solely on the pressure built up to push the fumes out. It's the "thumb over a filled straw" effect. It can't suck oily air from the can if it's connected to the intake duct where it should be and not the can.

For now I will run the can on the passenger side only for a few weeks and record the following.

-amount of oil collected
-engine oil consumption/disappearance
-other notable irregularities

After those are determined I'll decide which way to hook it up next or if this can is total garbage just put it back to the way it was.

I doubt the can is garbage. It could be useless if it's not connected properly, but that's not the can's fault.

You could try connecting the can how it should be and adding a known working check valve to the hose from the air duct to the passenger side valve cover. Or, closing off that PS port and letting the crank case vent more in an old school fashion, but with the CC on it. There may be no problem with your system and it's just that you have yours under high load a lot. High RPM kills vacuum and builds pressure in the crankcase, which can push oil out of the inlet. Maybe you're just doing so much hard driving that the clean side stays oily? That fixed orifice in the DS cove could be retricted or clogged, too.

I agree boosted is crazy tried to be cheap and run without a can at first and it blew the dipstick out. :emotions122:

I guess I understand the clean air side supposed to make it easy to vent but I don't see it causing any issues if it requires the pressure buildup to vent. Mostly because it should take much pressure at all.

Yeah I think the can is pretty nice and should be effective. The amount of oil collected while connected to the clean side will determine if I use a check valve and hook it up the OEM way or run both to the can and back to the top of the intake. If I end up deleting the tube in the intake tube before the TB I will probably get a nice 4" intake tube I've never been a big fan of the AFE tube especially since it has a big notch to fit clutch fan trucks.

Also I really don't think I run it in high RPM that much but I do keep it in high load a lot by starting in 3rd and making it use the lowend torque to get me to speed and not have to shift much because I'm lazy.

These hoes can take a lot of stuff in the rear ;). Couldn't shut the hatch so I was reminded how bad exhaust fumes are. Also makes me want a louder more aggressive exhaust and bigger cam it sounded weak.

Not sure if booboo pictures are allowed but here is a reminder not to hold onto the thing you are drilling with a 2" hole saw :Stupid Me:

It's probably not as bad as your shoulder but its certainly not something I hope to do again in the future. The last picture is a bit of meat stuck to the center cap I was drilling. Ended up with 6 stitches and an appointment to go to a joint specialist they think I might be missing some tendon.

Damn Dan! I hope everything turns out ok. What happens if you did damage the tendon? Internal stitches? Reattachment?

I have no idea I think it's fine I can move it, it just hurts when I do. It will be fine it's my left hand luckily, I would be devastated if it happened to Palmilla Handerson. More ticked off I won't be able to do many projects for a week or so. I will finish drilling the hole when I get home!

Thanks compadre, hope the shoulder is doing good. Tore mine 6 years ago and although its 99% better every once in a while I do something that makes an ouchy lol.
Thx buddy--it's coming along--slowly but surely. Keep that digit wrapped up! I hate when I hurt my hands or fingers--especially a right side one. I'm righty also.

I really think it's going to be fine but better safe than sorry. I typically wear some Tig welding gloves anytime I drill, cut or grind anything but my current pair blew out a finger just before this incident and I threw them in the trash vowing to pick up a new set on my way home the next day. They likely would have saved me completely and for just $7 at China Freight.

I try to never throw those gloves away--even with blown out fingers lol! Now--if there's 3 or more blown out on one hand.....that's a different story--but is the palm still good :D? I'm gonna get my $7 worth!!

Ehh once they get to where its a pain to put them on and take them off I'm less likely to wear them and then I get a trip to the ER :rotflmao:

Yep, clamps and gloves are priceless. Nice one. I haven’t hurt myself like that since my twenties. And I’ve spent my whole life doing construction. I learned young lol.

That's a good idea I should grab more clamps today at China Freight. It was pure stupidity on my part, I had my headphones in and Slipknot was blasting so OSHA went out the window. Like I used to say working my old safety manager job "when OSHA isn't followed OSHIT will follow"...... It certainly did along with some other choice words.
