08 Tahoe - ABS & Brake lights on, Scan Tool won't communicate with ABS

Scan tool communicates with pcm, but not ABS. Checked the 60 and 20 amp fuze and the cig lighter fuse all O.K.

Thoughts on what to do next?

I was gonna ask if you had a popped fuse. Beyond that, a faulty module?

Did the scan tool previously talk to your ABS?

I don't know anything about that specific scan tool, but I believe that a Tech 2 can communicate with the ABS. @swathdiver

Never tried it on the 08 tahoe b4 now. I went out and tested it on my 01 tahoe and 03 corvette and it communicates just fine with each of those vehicles - still no communication with the 08 tahoe ABS.... Perhaps bad module or wire issue but I had guessing!!!

A few minutes googling and watching a youtube video, I would say no, it only reads the engine and transmission.

Tech-2 can see everything.

You might have to turn on the CanBus feature or something like that, a feature of the GMT900 but not your other cars that were mentioned.

Yes, sorry - the ABS, brake and stabilitrak light came on and stay on. Tested panic stop in dirt, no ABS...

My bad for not reading your title more carefully.

It sounds like you have a couple of problems. The first is the scan tool, the second maybe a sensor or the EBCM itself, maybe easier to fix once you can read codes.

I am not familiar with your particular scan tool. I think the first step would be to contact the scan tool manufacturer and make sure you should be getting the Bxxxx and Cxxxx codes with your scanner.

Where are you located? Maybe another member nearby has a Tech2 (a lot of us have them) and can at least get the codes you need to diagnose and fix the ABS/Stabilitrack problem.

Let me swing by a shop I know well and see if his scanner communicates with the ABS system first. Odds are he has a different and better scanner than I do - and hopefully it will communicate and shed some clues. I will report back. Thanks for the help thoughts/ideas thus far!

Do any suspension work recently? Does your Tahoe have AutoRide? Make sure all the shocks are plugged in. There are connectors on the top of the frame rails for the rear shocks. They're right in line with the upper shock mount bolt, but on top of the frame rail. One being unplugged would cause your symptoms. An error with the throttle body or its circuit (wire harness, etc.) could cause these symptoms, but usually include an SES light.

SOLVED: Wow, checked all fuses - good. Removed inspected connections at EBCM - clean and no signs of corrosion. Still not working. Inspected grounds and the harness main ground that comes out and of the large harness by the frame and body mount under the truck (basically about under where the drivers foot would be (maybe back a little) was loose from the frame. Cleaned the frame and ground eyelet and re-bolted together. Problem solved.

YES! 100% communication. That having been said, I started researching scan tools (because mine is 11 years old) and holy cats there are a ton of them. After HOURS of research, I settled on the Autel MD906 Pro at about $225. I think it is the best bang for the buck for the serious home mechanic - reads Generic & manufacturer OBD2 codes, ABS SRS Transmission etc.
