I recently purchased a 2009 tahoe. Ultra base model, former border patrol truck. The only thing that comes on is the CEL during bulb check. Looking at the wiring diagram shows that it is directly wired to the ECM. Sometimes the cluster works perfectly normally the whole time I'm driving it. The rest of the time the cluster turns on for bulb check and then shuts off. I took the cluster out and found that if I unplug and replug the cluster it will turn on, the gages will tick and then it will shut off after a couple seconds and remain off. Sometimes it will remain on until I turn off the key. I checked every ground I can get my hands on, even added a new one from the drivers side firewall to the alternator bracket just to be sure. The harness to the cluster has good power and ground, jiggling the connector around does not change what my meter reads. This leads me to belive that the cluster itself is the issue. The only repairs to the clusters I've found any info on is replacing the little mosfet on the board. As far as I'm able to tell that is just to make the PRNDL and info screen work again. Both work fine when the rest of the cluster is working. Am I totally off base here or does the mosfet replacement sound like the right course of action? Any info would be greatly appreciated!
