Currently my 2020 Tahoe 5.3L is stock except for a stage 2 cam. Next up on the mod list is to give it a little rumble. But just a little. I'm hoping to keep the stock exhaust and maybe just swap out the muffler. Anyone attempt such a thing and have decent results?

I just recently swapped out the stock muffler on my 2013 for a large Magnaflow and did a resonator delete. It adds just a touch of rumble. Maybe not quite enough, but I was concerned about drone - I'd take too quiet any day over drone. I took the Tahoe up skiing last Friday (4 hours of driving), so I got a good chance to check all driving scenarios and I think I'm good.

I also had a 2009 Tahoe and did a similar mod to it but used a smaller magnaflow. Way too much drone in the cabin at highway speeds, especially right around 2200-2500 rpm. Exhaust guy even welded in a small glasspack after the magnaflow - that helped, but did not completely solve it.

I'll try and post a video of it soon.

They are like a last little damper for the exhaust. I would think a nice muffler would be enough. Anything more than that and ur waking the neighbors!

For my original setup, I had long tubes, catted y-pipe, going into the oem muffler and tailpipe on a stock 6.2L and it was hardly audible compared to stock. So this can be a very debatable subject and all the youtube videos in the world don't always do justice. Best bet is finding some similar vehicles in person and seeing how they sound.

The stock exhaust on your 5.3 Tahoe is 3” diameter which has a lot of muffler options.

I swapped in a Corsa 3.5” muffler on my ‘15 6.2 Yukon XL Denali and left the factory resonator in at the end and it was perfect! The resonator at the end made the tone more of a Corsa “Touring” vs Corsa “Sport”. Zero drone and great sound.

Try a universal Corsa 3” muffler.

I swapped in a K&N cold air intake. Deep throaty growl on acceleration, especially when towing. Not much difference when cruising.

I just had a Magnaflow Street Series muffler installed in my 2020 5.3L, kept the stock exhaust pipes and resonator, added a dual chrome tip. Very happy with my choice. Just enough rumble with no interior drone.

Got a part # on that muffler?
