Sounds like a way for them to weasel out of any warranty work...
Exactly. Even though it is deceitful, it is a business. The odds are in the warranty company's favor and their whole business is to keep money. They are always looking for a way to get out of paying a claim......ALWAYS.

Hi All,

I decided to get the Oil Analyzed all came back good apart from Total Wear which came back at 9.0ppm where as it’s recommended to be under 5.0ppm.

The recommendation was to change the oils to Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 0w20. However the PUP is not Dexos certified so I have a concern about my extended warranty possibly having a claim denied if I had a major engine problem. And Chevy will only put in ACdelco 0w20 at the dealer.

I decided to stick with ACdelco 0w20 for the next 4k miles, I’ll then have the oil tested again to check results against the original test results.

If Wear is still higher than 5ppm I’ll switch to Penz Platinum 5w30 which is Dexos certified with a WIX or PPE filter or an ACdelco filter and test that after another 4k miles. This way GM wouldn’t be able to weasel out of a warranty claim as Penz Platinum is Dexos Approved.

I’m hesitant to go all I. To the Ultra just in case I ever have to make an engineer warrant claim.

Cheers

Recommendation Please:

I have owned since new, a 2019 Tahoe 5.3L Midnight Edition now with 38k Miles. It’s not subject to the Engine recalls and runs perfectly. All Service performed by Main Local Chevy Dealer Oil Changes done approx every 6k mile, transmission Fluid change done around 33K miles.

Chevy will only put in 0w20 engine oil and ACDelco filter. I just added a full extended warranty for the next 4 years 48k miles (which we will never hit in 4 years).

With all the Chevy V8 engine issues post 2019 I’m still concerned…

Please recommend:

1. What oil you would use going forward
2. What oil filter you recommend
3. Advise is putting in non 0w20 and/or a non ACDelco filter whether it would potentially impact my extended warranty coverage if something happened.

Thanks in advance.
Been using AC Delco Filters since to 70's in all my GM vehicles. Impalas-Caprices-Cadillacs and now the 2016 Tahoe. If I go to my independent mechanic I bring a AC Delco Filter with me. I get the AC Delco filters from dealership. I don't see why you can't stick to the AC Delco Filters. Especially if your concerned about warranty issues. But to each their own.

BTW I am still running 0w20 oil [either Mobil 1 EP and sometimes AC Delco. I now have 207K miles on it. The OCI is 5K miles. Sometimes less when I am in a lot of NYC gridlock.

2020 Tahoe Z71 Midnight Edition 5.3.

Not telling you what to do. In my case, I'm out of warranty, and no extended warranty. I'm at about 75K and have decided to switch to Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5W30, and do oil changes at 3K miles. Truck is running perfectly, and I have a Range Dongle plugged in to keep the engine from going into 4 cyl mode. I also had a local transmission shop switch out the torque converter and install a better quality billet converter. Not sure if it's gonna help, but just trying to be pro active with maintenance, and avoid some of the issues some others have had. Time will tell. I use a K & N oil filter, mostly because I like the welded nut on the bottom of filter for removal.

FYI, PUP 0W40 has recently been Dexos R approved.

My understanding is because the run on 0W40 for GM vehicles, GM allowed Pennzoil to get the Dexos approval for the interim without jumping thru all the hoops and they may not be paying the licensing fee at the moment. I believe they have a year to fully comply so it will be interesting to see what happens next year.

See attached.
