Hi! I’m trying to get my power steering leak fixed. I already got the hydraulic booster part replaced, and still had a leak. I was told my steering gear has a leak and needs to be replaced also. I am getting told different things from a few mechanics about needing an alignment after it gets replaced. I figured you guys were the experts after seeing the discussions on here. So I am asking for some experienced honest advice here. Do I need an alignment after replacing my steering gear box on a 2004 Denali XL, AWD.

Yes, you absolutely get the truck aligned after that kind of work.

I just replaced my steering box last month, due to it leaking……. ( Fixing the leak will just delay it leaking again, and the labor to fix is near the price of a budget reman box. )
I elected to replace my box ( AND A NEW PITMAN ARM )…….
It will be a challenge to get lucky to be able to align the new box to your steering shaft, since the shaft attachment is not a ‘fine spline’….. so keeping your steering shaft straight with your steering wheel is rare.

Expect an alignment for also……. to straighten the steering wheel…..

I got no skin in the game. I don’t work for Firestone but you can get in a line a lifetime alignment at Firestone for like $230. Just letting you know stay safe out there.

Your alignment will be fine, but your steering wheel may not be straight. You can fix this (straighten the steering wheel) by evenly adjusting your outer tie rods on both sides. Adjust one inward and the other one outward by the same number of turns. Trial and error until you are satisfied.
