Ok folks got one I need educated on. Been a long tome since I've done my own work, so I've never come across this. Picked up a 2000 denali that runs pretty good and figured I'd do the work myself starting with the brakes. Put the whole thing up on stands for ease and proceeded to remove the rear wheels. Put the lugnut wrench on a lugnut and the whole wheel spun freely! Same on both sides. Yes it was in park. Started it, put it in each gear and everything worked. Reverse, foreward gears, brakes stopped the wheels. Put it back in park, wheels spun free when trying to remove lugnuts again. Is there something I don't know?

I wouldn’t expect it to be locked, unless you tried to move both wheels at the same time. Crack your lugs loose on the ground, then put it on jackstands

Just old school, never had a vehicle that loose before. Seems like it would roll away whwn parked. Never has though.

ya the awd "technically" does not have park, it works by binding the front & rear wheel wheels together, so yes if you jack up the front or rear individually it will roll away on you if are parked on any kind of slant, always use wheel chocks. I did not believe this was true when I first heard it so I went out and jacked up the front end (in park) and sure enough it rolled away on me. not sure if this applies to other manufacture awd but it does for GM
