Bilstein 5100 shock boot cramped

I installed 2 Bilstein 5100 shocks on the front of my 2003 Tahoe z71 yesterday. Everything when smooth except the shock boot looks very very crammed

The part number for the new shock is 24-186643 which looks like it is the correct shock. Any guidance is appreciated.

is you truck lifted? those shocks are for a truck with a 1-3" lift

It is stock height. That part number reads up to 2.5" of lift...

I have 2-2.5" of front lift and mine look just like that. Some day I may lower the bottom of the boots to get the kinks out.
It isn't much of a priority since the shocks are hard to see, but my OCD will eventually cause me to fix it.

Ok, thank you. It was driving me nuts yesterday.

This is simple.... Cut the zip tie then slip the boot down until your satisfied with the placement( may have to wiggle it back and forth) then re-zip tie it

Mine is lifted 2.5 - 3" and they are the same way.

slip that boot down over the body of the shock!

Not only is that boot rubbing on the shaft causing damage, the shaft will eventually wear numerous holes in that boot, allowing tons of dirt in..


almost as bad as this.
