I went by the dealership and for them to replace my cracked one with GM assistance of warranty is still gonna be $600. I was wondering if I could buy the dash somewhere else and have a body shop replace it cheaper. Anyone have a part number? 2009 tahoe z71

You could do it. Its not that difficult with regular hand tools. Dealer is the only place that has them, there is no aftermarket alternative. Id be happy to explain to you how to do it, Ive done at least 50-60.

There is a company that offers a dash overlay. It gets installed over your currently cracked dash and looks pretty good except for the fact that it only covers down to the bottom of the A/C vents at the far end of each side of the dashboard. They've got a couple videos on YouTube about it. Go on YouTube and search "Tahoe dashboard cap." Its the first two videos that come up.

And I'm surprised its gonna cost you $600 with assistance from GM. There's another member here who just posted a few days ago that he's having his dash replaced for $250 after the assistance from GM. Check the last couple pages in the "What did you do to your GMT900 today?" thread. You'll see it.

ETA: TXDASHCOVERS.COM is the company that offers the overlay.

my wife bought the overlay (Coverlay) for her NNBS Yukon. if you weren't looking for it, you'd probably miss it. definitely looks better than the cracked dash that GM is never going to pony-up and fix for free.

Ive seen quite a few places that sell the dash itself. Its still the OEM part but cheaper than the stealership. 20959607 is the part number for the 2007 which Id assume is probably the same for the 09. You can check as far as that goes though. They arent cheap for sure. $300-400ish.

Get a vin from a 2013 the same color as yours from eBay and call the dealer to get the PN and cost. 2012-2013 changed slightly in material and is a bit better.

Don't pay the $600 and don't get the overlay. I have a 07 Yukon that experienced the cracked dash that 07burb was referring to. There are two GM employees that monitor the forum, Jennifer and Andraya. PM them and let them help you. We all spend a shit load of money for these rides and a cracked dash due to poor manufacturing is not something we should have to live with. Both Jennifer and Andraya have helped me on several issues and it's worth reaching out to them. Let me know if you have any questions.

I sent Jennifer an email with the email address on here. It appears she is no longer in that job, some guy responded and seemed less than enthusiastic to help. Let me know how to get in touch with one of these ladies please.

We tried this route and even had a gm specialist assigned for our 08 with the cracked dash and although they took allot of info and tried we had no luck. We're now checking into alternatives. I had to replace the center light sensor and that part broke like a crispy cracker. I guess sub par material and global warming is to blame..

Hate to say it but sometimes there just are no deals given on certain things, regardless of failure. You may have to just bite the bullet and have them fix it. Like I said, if you want to buy the part, I'll be happy to guide you thru swapping it out with basic hand tools and a few hours of your time.

Last time I was at the dealer getting an oil change, I requested the part number for the replacement dash (in cashmere in my case).

This seems to be a good price based on the part number given to me by the dealer.

PANEL - GM (23224748) - $327.51

Sorry to hear you didn't get the results you were looking for. I spent around 6 months going back and forth with different dealerships and GM reps.

what did they do to help? did they get the cost down?
I basically paid the deductible. Cheaper than the part itself, so they took a loss on that and the labor.

When I went to pick it up, a corner was mashed to hell and the tech cut my GPS cord that connects to my in dash nav unit. When I realized my GPS wasn't working I called and the service manager, he said "Oh we didn't have to remove the nav unit to replace the dash" which I knew was ********* seeing as I just put the new dash unit in 3 weeks ago. Not to mention the gps cable is not the basic speaker wire to reconnect. I filed a formal complaint so we will see what happens now.

Here is the pic of the drivers side corner of the new dash. I'm baffled how this happened while installing it

Make sure its the right color. And make sure if its a newer number from an LTZ it may or may not have the center channel speaker in it.
