BlackBear tune is so close I can ...taste it? Sent in my data logs to justin last night after sum late night "full throttle operation" driving on empty streets, and he sent me the qustionaire form this afternoon, but those who have it , wage you choose for the shifting, it's a daily driver so I don't want it neck snapping but I wanna feel it, plus does anyone change the speed limiter on it or just leave it stock, I know I'll be emailin him a bit more over the next week butjusr lookin for a consensus

Tell him that you don't want the Ford Lightning Neck Snapping shifts. I told him I did NOT want that after experiencing that in my Lightning and he recommended his customer approved 75% Torque management reduction and let me tell you, it's PERFECT!!

justin maxed out the line pressure for my transmission and it shifts hard but not hard enough to chirp the tires. i`m gonna get a vette servo soon so hopefully i can get a chirp on the 1-2 shift. i can`t remember but i think i had 80%TM removed and i think the speed limit was raised to 120 or so. not that i think i`ll ever go that fast.

and if you`re undecided on what octane tune to get, go for the 93. i got the 91 tune last spring and retuned to the 93 in jersey in august. i wish i went with the 93 in the first place.

I did 100% removal or torque management and had my vette servo installed prior to the recent retune. Shifts hard and crisp when I'm on it but nice and smooth under partial throttle. I have z rated tires so I had the limiter removed....only had it up to 120 so far kinda nervous about the rear driveshaft coming apart at that speed. Sure gets past 100 in a hurry tho.

thanks guys, i dont think ive ever taken it past like 100-105 so i might just leave that unaltered since i'd imagine its probly already set to 120 according to the speedometer, right? torque management removal i'll probly ask for 75%, my only concern with that is will it effect driving in the snow at all, might have nothing to do with the other but im not sure.

and out of the shift firmness opts, i atleast wanna go standard but the "firm" choice is probly guna be it, might as well notice it if im gunna spend the money
~Stock
~Standard - Slightly firmer at light to mid-throttle, moderately firmer at heavy throttle
~Firm - Noticably firmer shifts across the board
~Very Firm

You will NOT notice the shift firmness unless you are under WOT. However, the 1-2 shift is a little quicker but not as snappy as the WOT shifting. In town driving, ie. snow driving, it will have little to no effect UNLESS you like to press the pedal to the metal at every opportunity.

how much difference is there between the different octane tunes? and what are the main differences?

Depends on the truck. I'd say 5hp-20hp it really depends on the modifications and a number of other factors. Most lightly modded trucks will probably see a gain of 5-8hp by running a bit more timing.

i dont know what the HP gain is between the two but i could feel a little difference when i went up to the 93. the biggest difference i saw was MPG. i recently went on a trip to the jersey shore (about 100 miles one way) and i got 22.3 mpg all highway at about 70-75 mph. around town i average about 16.5 mpg.

the reason i switched to the 93 octane was obviously for more power and the fact that every gas station i have a card for only has 93 octane so i figured, if i`m using 93 anyway, why not get the tune to match? either tune really wakes up the truck and makes it alot more fun to drive!

and for comparison i have a 2005 yukon 4x4 with 3:42 gears and 275/55/20 tires, spectre cold air intake and a flowmaster catback exhaust.

i just recently found a shop with a chassis dyno. if i get bored i may swap my stock pcm for a while and dyno it then swap back to the tuned one to see the difference. i just dont know how long it takes the truck to adjust to the pcm swaps so i can get a correct dyno reading. i`d have to get two seperate dyno runs at $75 each for 3 runs.

Might have to go for a 93 then, gas prices are coming down, sorta, and 22 mpg on the highway sounds alot better than what I'm gettin on the highway

im at 100% removed and my 1-2 shift At like half throttle is actually alot harder than at full. Also if I floor it at like 25-30 and let off light right before its supposed to shift it slames in to gear and not the chirp slam. Like a jammed gear slam, I do this on the yukon and it still does the shift, but I dont feel it at all. It really sucks actually and dont know if somthing is wrong or if thats normal. but 2-3 and 3-4 are like silk.

Well 93 it is after sum gas station investigating it's only like 10 cents more a gallon than the 91, then probly 75% tm removal and the firm shift point opt and take off the speed limiter, still gotta ask him about the tires tho since Im puttin the stock rims back on for the winter so their significantly smaller than the 22 inch rims for the rest of the yr, that is until I go for 24's next yr perhaps
